Hey, anyone know in detail how Berk's loan assistance repayment program works? As in, is Berkeley law worth sticker as compared to a T2 in an isolated market that's pretty much a free ride? This is still a hypothetical since no financial aid letters have come out, but I'm curious.

I am not sure but give them a call, they have such a nice staff and I am sure they could explain it all to you.

I recall a decent explanation in the Financial Aid section of the site. Their site is very nicely done with most info I needed, did you look it up? I think they just upped to income limit for LRAP to be higher than Yale's which is a great deal.

I started to like them more since it's my only top acceptance so far. But coming from you it must be pretty nice. Look forward to getting it.

Im actually biased towards UC-Berk. My main academic interest is environmental/resource law and I am something of a "corporate hippie" type.

Haha, I enjoy having the hippie personality/element around even though I dont really dress or act the part myself. I find liberal minded people that I dont agree with far more tenable than conservative minded people I dont agree with. I would probably best be described as a liberal leaning moderate.

You would never find me with dreadlocks or in a tie-dye shirt but it wouldnt be strange to find me volunteering at the botanical gardens or working with the sierra club.

So you'd be better/happier at Berkeley/Stanford than Harvard right? I am a mix, so hard to really fit in anywhere.

Yeah I would probably be happier at Berkeley/Stanford because of environmental factors (location, dedication to environmental law, weather) but not to the point that it, by itself, is a determining factor. I know that I would be fine at Harvard as well. At the end of the day, Im not at all picky and I just love universities so I would be happy just about anywhere that isnt some super rural place in a super conservative, crappy little farm town where the only place to go is walmart(went to school in one freshman year). That doesnt describe any of the top law schools so I really am not super against any of them.

I already accepted Berkeley and was looking to meet some local LA people to maybe get together socially before heading to Cal.

Just sent my application in this week and went under review immediately. Was this the case for everyone else? (Maybe this Q belongs in a different thread.)

There is no "complete" you go from received to under review.

So are you going?

It may get more expensive soon BTW

What other options do you have now? Cost is certain a concern for us since sticker at Penn is much cheaper than sticker at Berkeley (living expenses). Although I certainly hope I will not be forced to make a school decision based solely on cost.

Got my snail mail packet yesterday! Very exciting, but also stressful, as I guess I better start thinking about applying for aid and housing issues and stuff.

So I got the first email (after Dean Tom's call) about being admitted, but not the second email with my info to get on the admitted students site. This is supposed to be two separate emails right? It's been just over a week since the call...how long did it take for you to get that info?

Based on what I see on the website, no one is getting any scholly info for several weeks at least, is that right? I can't access that Scholarship Interest Form until I have my login info, but it seems safest to fill it out, even though it also seems like the candidates that are proactively chosen by reviewers are going to get the best of the pickings. At least this is all what I am inferring...any other info that might be helpful?

Anyone looking at housing options yet? I just skimmed the website, but would appreciate any other beta...

I haven't committed to Berkeley yet, but it's the only response I've gotten so far (yes, I just turned all my apps in two weeks ago). However, even if I get into my other 4, I think Berkeley is the most likely law school for me to attend, given likely financial situation, my future residence, its prestige and, of course, figuring out how to make this work for two, rather than just one (my husband will probably not move with me, so making this easy...er, uh, minimally difficult, is a primary goal).

Let's get this thread moving, potential classmates!

I keep hearing that berk has decent need based financial aid, but on their website it talks about how berk expects you to take out the first $44K of cost in loans first year, and first $40K in loans for the last two years. Does that mean the rest will be given in grant aid? Does berk definitely not give a greater percentage of need based aid in grants instead of loans? If anyone could chime in, it would be very useful, because $130K in debt seems to be much more manageable than $210K (the full 3 year COA).

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
