If you are into lifting, do you find time for it?
There is a gym right by the law school/Darden that is mostly used by those students.
It is adequate for anything you would want to do, but nothing like the AFC in the middle of the UG part of campus which is huge. There are two more gyms as well on the main campus that are less populated and a little smaller than the law/business one. You should have access to all of them I would imagine.

Would you say reading the books for 1L classes over the summer is a helpful idea?
The casebooks? I would say no but I would suggest familiarizing yourself with cases if you have never read one before. Perhaps read an opinion or two if you want. I don't think it would hurt and it seems a lot of people in the first few weeks were a bit up a creek when it came to reading an opinion. I read some before school started and I felt pretty comfortable.

I would read getting to maybe and familiarizing yourself with what a law school exam is like so you know how to approach your classes and readings. We have not taken exams yet but I think having the correct perspective on what is tested and how you're tested in law school is helpful. Frankly, I've been surprised how many people I've met who had no clue coming in what an issue spotter or fact pattern was. They thought exams here are the same as they are in undergrad or something.

Not in the slightest. Honestly, once you come to law school, you are totally immersed in what you are learning. Within 2 weeks you'll be reading cases fast as hell and starting to put things together. If you want to for fun, go ahead, but the only person I knew who did that and profited went to a shit law school with every intent to transfer to a T-14. I would skim through getting to maybe just to get a sense of what you should pay attention to for exams, it helped a little with figuring out what is important. But the book gets redundant after like 30 pages, especially if you don't know the cases. Also, this place is a F**king fantasy land I honestly could not attend and would not attend ANY other law school in the country (other than Michigan, that place is DOPE), so congrats and great choice.

Yes, you feel separated from the undergrads, and that's not a bad thing. If you want to hang out with undergrads you just go chill down on the main grounds or at the corner, there's plenty of them there, and they're not all up in your school that much so you're not so bothered by them there.

There's a bus that runs from the law school to the main grounds, it's free, and it's like a 5 minute ride.

Anywhere on Arlington Blvd or in Ivy Gardens if you value proximity to everything; Woodlands or Jefferson Ridge if you value luxury and don't mind the commute.

How much more expensive is woodlands/jefferson ridge, and what kinda commute are we talking?

I'm a 15 to 18 min walk to the school and I live in a spacious room, wood floors, pool, my own bathroom, fast and reliable comcast (lol) and not a bug to be seen and I pay $350 per month. I have two roommates btw. There are some good options that are not ivy/arlington if you have a car/dont mind walking a bit.

15-18 minute walk is less then it takes me to walk to my classes now. How far of a walk is it from IVY? like 2 minutes?

350 a month? I am assuming you share a bedroom?

Depending on which apt you get, it's not really much more expensive because you're paying a location premium to be near the law school. It's maybe a 12 minute drive. Those aren't the only options but they're probably the easiest ones for 1Ls.

No I got my own room. Its a 3 bedroom with 1 and 1/2 bath. That half bath is in my room. My roommates pay less than I do. I'm off of Barracks Rd a few streets north of 29. I cut through the park to get to class.

ivy is more of a hike like 25 or more due to where I am. I have a car though

Arlington Blvd ranges from ~2-5 min to the school. Ivy depends greatly on where in the complex your apartment is; the closest is maybe 7, furthest is like 15?

Is it worth it to be that close to the school? (if it is more expensive lol)

Ivy is kind of the social center of the school, especially for 1Ls so it helps being right there as opposed to driving everywhere. It's helpful to know that you're always a relatively short walk from school, softball, groceries, etc and a more modest cab ride to bars in a place where there will be plenty of people to split cabs with. I think it's good to live close as a 1L and then move if you decide it's not for you but it's mostly a sliding scale between convenience and quality.
