Go ahead and apply for Grad Plus loans and sign your MPN. I think in early July we should hear from NYU with more details.

i'm pretty sure you can do something on your own, but i was the one who asked financial aid and this is the response they gave me. ima c&p everything cause im just too lazy.
NYU Financial Aid wrote: 1. Where do I send in my and my parent's 2010 Tax Returns?
2. I signed up for FAFSA in February, if i want to fill the "difference/gap" in my financial package with Federal Direct Graduate Plus Loans, do I need to fill out another application?
3. I still have Federal Undergraduate loans. If I want to defer payments while I am in law school, do I need to fill out a form through NYU?

1. Please send your tax returns to the address listed below.

2. We will be sending out information about the loan application process in June to enrolling students. If you have completed the FAFSA, you do not need to do anything else until that time.

3. Your loans should be automatically deferred. The Law School, together with the rest of the University, uses the National Student Clearinghouse (http://www.studentclearinghouse.org/) to communicate enrollment information to third parties, such as your lenders. The enrollment status of all students is reported on a monthly basis by New York University to the Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse, in turn, reports enrollment status to lenders. Access Group receives updates from NSC. However, if your lender requires a form, you should forward the form (by mail, fax, or email) to the law school’s Office of Records and Registration, Furman Hall, Room 400, New York, NY 10012, fax (212) 995-4523, or email law.registration@nyu.edu.

There's probably no harm in waiting until they send info, but I'm a neurotic mess and figured I should do it now. In fact, it's probably better to wait..oh God what have I done!?

oh, i'm keeping my old laptop (which is still working fine) - i plan on using the new one just for law school stuff. my old laptop will be used for things like displaying the weather, or other projects.
Why are you getting another laptop just for law school stuff? You're going to use a different computer for displaying the weather? lol sry thats just really funny
yeah, i was being sarcastic. my old computer works fine, but does not meet the software/hardware requirements. i don't mind spending 350-400$ on a new laptop - given that getting a copy of Windows 7, a bigger hard-drive, and a RAM increase for my old computer isn't nothing. I also have projects/software on the old computer that slows it down a bit - and i don't want that affecting a law school exam. But if there's something about the NYU endorsed laptops that warrants spending 1000$ more, i was wondering what that is.

Most of their reqs aren't really that far out there. The more I think about it, the less I'm shocked to find a sub-$400 computer that meets their specs.

Unrelated to the plague that everyone has: from looking at the admit website, item one only applies if we're receiving institutional aid (i.e. grants) right? If we don't have any then we don't have to send our returns to NYU at all.

Is it bad that I'm using my expected future reliance on LRAP as an excuse to splurge when it comes to loans? It's like, yeah, I could take less than the COL budget and try to get a really cheap apartment, but all of my loans are going to be repaid for me. I could buy a $400 PC and use a Windows OS I'm not very familiar with, or I could just take the full laptop allowance and ball out with a new Macbook.

The NYC rental market blows chunks. I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't see if there are still free studios in student housing (I'm assuming there aren't).

it's a lottery. so as long as you're in before they start assigning, then you will have just as good a chance to get a studio as someone who submitted in march.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
