You're right, but I'd much rather be surprised by the law school experience than ruin it anymore than I already have.

Also, if I get Arthur Miller now, I'll know exactly what I'm getting into with regards to being in class with Arthur Miller...as opposed to?

As opposed to an Arthur Miller ambush? (I have visions of camo and black face paint)

That video is terrible and should never be used as an example of anything.

yes. :(

It's like the movie Norbit. Terrible the first ten times I watched it on HBO; pure brilliance the 11th.

Ahhhh. I think I treat bad movies/songs and alcoholic beverages the same way. If I don't like it the first time, then never again.

My all-time favorite movie (Rocky IV) is testament to this.

I have a friend (through my family) who has a two bed room apartment in Manhattan (2.3 miles from NYU). She is a successful novelist who spends most of her time at her Connecticut home (two hour train ride to NY) plue she travels a good bit. Typically, she is in NY about two days a week. Rent is nominal. . . almost like I am housesitting for her. My question is, if I decided to go to NY in June or July, what access (if any) would I have to the law school―perhaps the law library? If there is no access to NYU (without being a nuisance), I will likely stay put until August. What would you suggest?

As far as I know from the other buildings, you would need a valid student ID to access it. I also can't imagine what use the law library would be to you in terms of materials, unless you want to do the pre-class assignments in Aug from the actual law library? You can probably get some sort of a visitor pass to scope it out again, but I doubt they'll let you in daily.

If you want a place on campus to study or do general work, a lot of people use Think on Mercer or the Starbucks on W4th and University to study in, which will probably provide a reasonably representative example of summer studying at NYU. If you just want a good excuse to come hang out in the city and it's basically free AND you don't have a better/paid gig this summer it would be pretty fun and somewhat useful (in terms of getting yourself used to the neighborhood/staking out good study and lunch spots/determining good bars/MEETING PEOPLE IN GENERAL) to take this writer up on her offer.

Provided it's low drama. Dealing with unnecessary drama immediately before law school is silly.

Can anyone see any actual reason to buy one of the suggested laptops via that NYU store? I saw the requirements for laptops, and see laptops that cost like 350$ as fulfilling the requirements... is there something wrong with doing this?

2 GB of memory (RAM)
80 GB hard drive capacity
4 GB USB Memory Flash Drive
CD-RW/DVD combo drive (not required, but highly recommended)
10-base-T Ethernet card and cable *
Wireless card with 802.11 a, g, or n capability**

Windows Vista with Service Pack 2, OR Windows 7 with Service Pack 1.
Office Productivity Software, such as MS Office, OpenOffice or Word Perfect Suite
Symantec Endpoint Protection (provided free through the University) or other up-to-date antivirus software
PDF reading software (e.g. Adobe Reader X)

Depends on what you plan to do personally with that computer. 80GB is not altogether that much, although externals can usually take care of that problem.

Then you're probably fine with just getting whatever meets the lawl school requirements and what not - no need to break the bank for a second laptop haha
