Delayed response, but: I interviewed for IUB in Washington DC. It was on January 29th. I haven't heard a peep from them since. Kind of frustrating, seeing as they are the first school I applied to, and the only school I'm still waiting to hear from. At this point, I'm expecting bad news :x

I'm just sort of curious- were the interviews GULC like group interviews or one on one? What were they like?

Did most people have interviews? All I got was an e-mail saying I was complete, and then an acceptance letter like 2 weeks later. I didn't really think I was auto-admit material either, so they must have really liked my PS or something

I was under the impression they were interviewing people with numbers that are sort of "on the bubble". That applies to me, and to a few other people I talked to, at least.

Was this question directed at me? I didn't interview at GULC... I'm confused? haha

Just found this link with a wealth of information on the Torts class taught by Gjerdingen, who is teaching Summer Start. The link takes you to a course description, but on the right hand side of the page there are links to all kinds of info including a syllabus.

--LinkRemoved--

Of course, this isn't current info (from 2008) and it's a syllabus for a Fall course so the schedule won't jive with Summer Start, but it still gives you a good idea of what to expect. Not to mention, the Exams link will take you to the final from 2008. :D

It was just directed at anyone who interviewed.
And I just meant was there a group discussion or one on one interview? Was it laidback or formal? Intimidating or made you feel at ease? Again, it doesn't really matter but I'm curious!

Finally registered for Spring Law Day & went for the shared hotel room. I considered one of them cheap motels for my own room, but I figured having a roommate can't be that awful for two nights..

Here is when I know/remember:

They did one day of interviews in DC, and we were told they were interviewing 40 people. It was optional to sign up. The interviews took place at Jones Day in DC. They had like 5 or 6 Indiana Law alums doing the interviews, they all worked for Jones Day or the government, in some context. They were individual interviews, some people were interviewed by 2 alums, I just had one. It was really short- 20 minutes. My interviewer was really chatty but sort of awkward... I felt like I could barely get a word in. I was literally asked 3 questions (why law school? to what other schools did you apply? what type of law are you interested in?), then he took a glance at my resume, and started talking about my hometown, since he'd been there. He talked for a long time, then asked me if I had any questions. Then he gave some long-winded answers to my questions, then I was on my way. Overall the process was was pretty friendly and non-intimidating. My interviewer seemed like a really nice guy, but I also feel a little bothered that this one individual has a potentially large say in whether or not I'm admitted, when all we did was sit in a room together for 20 minutes, and he talked for at least 10 of them.

I was also sort of confused that the "why Indiana" question was not asked. Shouldn't that be a given? I had a great answer ready, and when it became obvious that he wasn't going to ask it, I'd tried to work it in anyways. But still... strange.

^ thanks for answering, miazdc! that does sound a bit... odd.

The longer I wait for finaid from other schools, the more sure I'm going next fall.
After next week's visit, I think I'll officially be a Hoosier :D

Anybody checking out housing on the trip down for ASD?? I touch down at like 4pm, and most offices close at 5pm Friday and aren't open on the weekend which totally sucks because I really wanted to have a good idea of where to put a deposit down by then.

Does anyone have any leads on places? I've checked all the sites and everything but has anyone narrowed their decisions down yet?

I'm going to visit on a Sunday, and through Craigslist I've met some people who are willing to show me apartments even then! People who post apartments on Craigslist are usually pretty good at communicating (and if they're not you probably don't want to be renting from them anyway!) so I'd just email around and see if you can get some leads. Good luck!

From my understanding the University is going to provide us with housing information at SLD. I'm starting to think about summer housing options though...considering doing the summer start.

Niceee--thanks I'll get on that, although I'm incredibly weary of Craigslist haha.

My flight gets in around noon so I am going to be looking at some places, although a few of them are a bit far from campus. I dont mind commuting a bit if the rent is cheap and the place is nice. Some of the places I have seen online are a bit tacky for my tastes, LOL. But the upscale looking stuff right next to campus is so expensive and Im Queen Cheapo. Hopefully I can find a roommate so I can split a 2 or 3 bedroom with someone to keep costs down.

BTW, if you can weed out the crap Craigslist is a great resource to find housing. I have found every apartment I have ever had in DC on Craigslist, as well as my last 3 jobs (2 internships, 1 PT gig).

I can second cowgirl_bebop on Craigslist. I've found four places in Nashville on Craigslist. One was OK, but the other three - the last of which I've lived in for 2 and a half years almost - were great. I trust it for housing, if nothing else :)

Shameless plug:

My roommates and I are hoping to sublease our house (or rooms in it) for the summer. We're all 1Ls and headed out of Bloomington for summer work. We've got a great place that's been held by law students for several years now. If you're interested PM me and I can share more information, pics, etc.

So if we're not going to SLD, how do we get this awesome housing information?

Cool! I noticed that there is a discount at Renaissance Rentals for graduate students. Anyone know what kind of discount they're offering?

I will be at SLD. Only three weeks away...we need to get on organizing the TLS get together. Some of the current 1Ls have offered to meet up with us and show us around Btown. Any takers?
