As usual, my mailman left it on the floor of my aptartment building.Verisimi wrote:+1 for the ABSOLUTELY INSANE brick of CLS materials. I have no idea how people with tiny mailboxes are going to get that monster.

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2014
If your grades drop even slightly, they will rescind your acceptance. I think last year there were 54 people who had their acceptances rescinded because of that. Further, Columbia went to the trouble of calling up the ABA and each individual state bar to blacklist them from the profession for life for their indiscretion.
Seriously though. If your grades drop, don't send them to the LSAC.

hint - it's nothing you can't get online but it feels nice to have something on the coffee table for others to ask about.

Ah, good ol' snail mail. I got my Inside New York book today. Did anyone else notice how the letter that comes with it says "the city that you will likely call home for the next three years?"

I'm joining the chorus in enjoying the awesome swag that Columbia has given in less than two weeks since I was accepted! hellome, I feel you on the COL. The way I think about is that I'll be in NYC for 3 years with great job prospects and the loans will not be as large of a burden as they would be elsewhere, even if the loans are greater in amount. Columbia is such a fantastic university and the law school is wonderful judging by every source I've read, so I am a very excited (98% sure) Columbia '14 student!

I'm excited to get my box! It went to my mom's house and she forwarded it to me. I hope that it gets to me in time. I'm leaving the country on Tuesday!
Anyone have any ideas on housing? Is it a good idea to fill out the application as soon as it's available?

I'm waiting until I go to the Admitted Students Days to make a call on where I want to live. I don't think there's any benefit to filling it out earlier than the deadline (May 1).Hey-O wrote:

Is anyone else considering off-campus housing? I live in Brooklyn right now and while the 45 min commute won't be the greatest, I personally wouldn't give up the area for close proximity to classes...

Possibly post 1L, but 45 min sounds like too long a commute for my preference. Thats about 2 hours each day you'd be giving up on travel, are you sure your location is that worth it you?ma456 wrote:Is anyone else considering off-campus housing? That's how I feel about it, but some people don't mind commutes.Ship87 wrote:Possibly post 1L, but 45 min sounds like too long a commute for my preference. If I end up at Columbia, I'm almost certainly going to stay in Brooklyn...I would rather do a commute (good decompression time on the train) than live in Morningside Heights.Hey-O wrote:That's how I feel about it, but some people don't mind commutes.Ship87 wrote:Possibly post 1L, but 45 min sounds like too long a commute for my preference. Linzer, is that because of you like your current location or because you dislike Morningside Heights? Is the rent significantly cheaper where you live or are other factors coming into play as well?

Rent is not significantly cheaper, but general things like food/groceries/bars are. I dislike the lack of options for all of that stuff in Morningside Heights, and my own personal study habits make it a good idea to live nowhere near campus, and separate "school/work" from "home" as much as possible.Ship87 wrote:Linzer, is that because of you like your current location or because you dislike Morningside Heights? Also, my bf and I just really like my neighborhood, and its close enough to fast trains in Manhattan to make it work.

+1. My bf and I love our neighborhood in BK too and Morningside Heights has so much less to offer. I'm also on board with the need to separate school from home or else I feel like I have no life. The 45 min commute might be a pain for some but I find it alternatively invigorating/a good time to zone out/read/etc.

Just by the looks of this thread it seems that if I go to CLS there will be no sense of community. Pretty much seems like most of the people in here want to get their degree and get out. No one seems to want to be around campus at all. Surprising.

I'm interested in this. I'm not a big social person. I like my social life and my work/school life to be together because it is too much work for me to juggle both. I'm hoping for a sense of community in my school.Non-Chalant1 wrote:Just by the looks of this thread it seems that if I go to CLS there will be no sense of community.
