I want to try my luck with negotiating for more money although the scholarship they give me is already a far reach for me. A law school student can always use some extra money, right?
I have 2 questions, can anybody help me?
First, I'll attend the March ASW, should I ask about the money before or after the visit? Second, is there any particular person or email address I should write to?
Thanks

The following was posted on "discuss the school" section, got no reply, maybe it's in the wrong thread, could somebody here help answer them for me?

I will take a stab at this, but note that I am largely talking out of my ass here. Maybe this will trigger more discussion for your question.plmls wrote:The following was posted on "discuss the school" section, got no reply, maybe it's in the wrong thread, could somebody here help answer them for me?

Successfully negotiating for more scholly money is mostly unexplored territory, so there is no real formula or right answer on how to go about it. I would probably ask as early as possible (i see no significance in the ASW date) because UVA has been over enrolled the last two years and uses its money to compel people to defer. Also the later in the admissions cycle, the more money they have already dished out.
I would probably address my admissions councilor, the person who told you that you are accepted and not to hesitate to ask him any questions.

From what I know, UVA rarely negotiates scholarships.

You're probably right, but I think there is a regular poster who said they got a small scholarship through negotiation.gladiator wrote:From what I know, UVA rarely negotiates scholarships.

Re: UVA Class of 2014
I'm just regurgitating stuff I've seen elsewhere on this site, but I think the main thing is just to notify the admissions office of any scholarships you receive as well as any "better" acceptances (HYSCCN). Let them know you really want to go to UVA and that any additional scholarship money would make your decision that much easier.ZiggyPink wrote: I will take a stab at this, but note that I am largely talking out of my ass here. Thanks you all for the info. I'll write to them during the weekend. They won't rescind the admission because of it, right?

Anyone have an idea when we might hear about scholarships if we didn't hear on the phone?

Also curious. I just submitted the UFAA, so I'm hoping we'll hear soon.bleedblue wrote:Anyone have an idea when we might hear about scholarships if we didn't hear on the phone?

Somebody posted on the UVA Regular decision thread that we would probably hear between early-mid March. So I'm guessing within the next 3 weeks.

I submitted the info a month ago. Still have not heard back. Hoping I would soon though.LLB2JD wrote:c_dubya_s wrote:Also curious. I just submitted the UFAA, so I'm hoping we'll hear soon.bleedblue wrote:Anyone have an idea when we might hear about scholarships if we didn't hear on the phone?

Just send an e-mail apologizing for it. Jason Dugas is really awesome/nice, I'm sure he's not being like, "IF ONLY WE COULD RESCIND HIS ACCEPTANCE!!"

So is it pretty unlikely that I would get need-based aid if they already gave me some merit-based? Or are they determined independently?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
