Haha. Honestly, while I like to think I have a pretty eclectic taste in movies, I won't pretend that I don't love pointless action movies that show cars flipping in midair for 30+ seconds followed by jet planes barreling into volcanoes that awaken a giant half-robot/half-lizard whose only purpose in the movie is to distract moviegoers from the lack of a sensible plot. Also, they're pretty cool.

If you were a true movie snob, you wouldn't bother with awards season. The academy should be beneath you.

By awards season, I was more referring to December, when all the cool movies are released.spacepenguin wrote:incompetentia wrote:I hope I'm not the only movie snob here - I need somebody to get through awards season with

Jacki Weaver getting passed over is exactly the kind of thing that makes me really not like the Academy

Since you asked:
They're really not separate levels per se, but there are really four different ways you could frame the story, each one focusing on a different aspect of the interpersonal relationships
*everybody slowly backs away from inc*

Yeah, Black Swan was awesome. I was really hoping it would win Best Picture, but I didn't think the Academy would go with such a dark film...

OMG Black Swan is incredible. Except as a dancer it made me sad how twisted the world of ballet appeared.

Arnovski is one of the more underappreciated directors, I was really bummed out when he left work on the next wolverine movie. It could have been special

Re: NYU Class of 2014
hi everyone, bob here, nyu-bound! can we be friends mmk?
my first thought concerns the ambiguous guest policy for housing:
GUESTS/VISITORS
Visitors must be announced from the Front Desk or present a Guest Pass. Residents may have overnight guests but, in fairness to your neighbors and any apartmentmates, you must follow some established rules. You must be in attendance at all times when you have a guest. You may have overnight guests for a total of no more than seven nights per 30-day period. (A particular guest may be a guest in Law School housing for no more than seven nights per 30 day period.) The resident/licensee will need to obtain a Guest Pass for each guest, each visit; you can do this simply by stopping by the office in Mercer Residence or D'Agostino Hall. You will need written permission from your apartmentmate(s) if you are having more than one guest at a time or if your guest is staying more than three consecutive nights; both require authorization from the administration.
it says "The resident/licensee will need to obtain a Guest Pass for each guest, each visit." does this mean that if i am out on the town and i bring a friend home i will have to register my hook-up? this can't be true can it? cuz it also says "Visitors must be announced from the Front Desk or present a Guest Pass," so this makes it sound like as long as they have your permission the guest can just go on in and relations can commence.

I implore you to create a throwaway email account and anonymously email NYU Housing with this situation while being a claimant as an impending 1L, thanks.bob77 wrote:hi everyone, bob here, nyu-bound! can we be friends mmk?

this should be a pretty simple question to answer for anyone whose lived in the housing?booboo wrote:I implore you to create a throwaway email account and anonymously email NYU Housing with this situation while being a claimant as an impending 1L, thanks.bob77 wrote:hi everyone, bob here, nyu-bound! can we be friends mmk?

edit: oh, i think i missed that you just thought it would be humorous to e-mail them this question, lol. i think i missed it because i am genuinely concerned atm, i'd like to live in their housing.

Re: NYU Class of 2014
You sign them in in a logbook (they'll need to hand over their picture ID for the night) and then sign them out again in the morning. This can be every bit as awkward as it sounds, particularly if you're fuzzy on their name the next morning.bob77 wrote:hi everyone, bob here, nyu-bound! can we be friends mmk?

Edit: This was/is the procedure with all the undergrad dorms, and I assume it's a consistent policy. Columbia had similar rules. You need a student ID or sign in to get into most NYU buildings in general, including academic ones.
