Don't worry I don't know how to type and will fail all my exams therby making resarching firms a complete waste of time that would have been better served by researching burger joints.Excellence = a Habit wrote:Nooo someone's got to fill out the bottom 10% with me!er doctor wrote:Okay now feel hopelessly behind because I've spent my free time this week playing Portal 2 instead of researching law firms. Did you pull generic samples off the internet? Where did you get your model law resume and cover letter?AreJay711 wrote:I have a word file of firms that take 1Ls and other things that looked interesting that Michigan students have done 1L summer but nothing more than that lol. I laso have a generic cover letter and resume done but still not on yalls level.thelaststraw05 wrote:I wish I was kidding when I say: I turned this into a spreadsheet, filtered for Chicago, and have started doing research on the firms.AreJay711 wrote:QF Future GunnerEntchen wrote:http://www.law.umich.edu/careers/factsa ... sAlpha.pdf
Gotta keep my options open.
I have heard it is a good idea to prepare these because you will be busy with finals when the job application deadlines are coming up... I just have no idea what a good law resume or cover letter looks like.

Jesus you guys are gunning. Don't worry about this too much. There will be seminars on resume writing in Nov. And scheduled reviews with career services where they will hack them up anyhow. The things they suggest aren't at all the normal guidance you get for resumes. (They estimate you get <30 seconds for cover letter and resume with lawyers.)
Students working at firms the first summer are a minority. And, many of those just recently heard back. So, you can't really apply to firms and judges, etc as they fill up fast. I mailed resumes to judges the last week of finals and interviewed the first week of Jan. I was one of the first picked up by any of the federal judges I talked to. Most didn't even have their programs in place yet. There really isn't that big of a rush. And you'll have a few hours of free time between Nov/Dec. It's not THAT busy.
Most people mailed/submitted resumes over Christmas break.
Edit: If you really feel you must, look at this: --LinkRemoved--, and --LinkRemoved--. You will need a uniqname...do not distribute outside the school.
Make sure it's no longer than a page for resume. I have 10 years of work experience and still made it under a page once you cut everything they don't care about.

Re: Michigan Class of 2014
So, has anyone received any information about MAP (Michigan Access Program) yet?
Also, have they sent out any info about living in the lawyers club yet? I sent in the form saying I want to live there a couple months ago and am 90% sure I got an email back, but I seem to have deleted somehow
... should I email admissions and just make sure I'm squared away and didn't imagine getting the email, or is there a better way to confirm that they saved me a spot?
