Does the status checker display whether you're ED or not?

Just got the call from Director Faulk about 15 minutes ago and I am in! I went complete and my ED form was processed Wednesday so not getting a call within a day doesn't necessarily mean you won't get in! My numbers are 171 3.39 non-URM and out-of-state. So excited to to be going to UVA next year! Congrats to everyone else accepted!

Re: UVA Class of 2014
I got in today. Super excited.
EDIT: After reading through the thread. I had a 171/3.6. My ED app was processed early last week and within a day or so Jason Dugas emailed me saying he would like to know when was a good time to call. I was out of the country all week so he called when I got back (AKA today). He was an absolutely great guy and he chatted with me about my resume, etc. In the afternoon he called back to let me know that I had been accepted!

I guess since we're all on the topic, I was waitlisted, then accepted/deferred last cycle. I'm thrilled to be going to UVa, and I'm looking forward to meeting you all in a year.

Quick question for all of you. Did your status checker change before you were all accepted? The date on my status checker changed from 9/2 to 9/13, but the status remains 'File Complete, Pending Review/Decision'.
Is UVA one of those schools who change the date just before they release a decision? I am non-ED out of state if that makes a difference.

Doubtful that you would seeing a non-ED decision this early on in the cycle. But stranger things have happened...

Wow my numbers are going to end up extremely close to yours. Great to know U.Va is accepting, hopefully they will give me a shot RDsherpaorlawschool wrote:Just got the call from Director Faulk about 15 minutes ago and I am in! 171 3.39 is only getting in ED i would say. The GPA is just to low for the +1 lsat score (from their median)2014 wrote:Wow my numbers are going to end up extremely close to yours. Is there somewhere you are hoping to attend over UVA to hold u back from ED?

Re: UVA Class of 2014
I don't have an LSAT yet, so that is obviously what is the first hold up. If I kill the LSAT then I would hope for Michigan or Penn which I would then probably attempt to leverage into a scholarship from U.Va or Cornell. Even if I did end up at a 171 with UVA ED clearly my best shot at cracking t10, I don't know if I could pull the trigger. I already have UG debt and haven't accepted the inevitability of paying sticker yet. If I were faced with a UVA acceptance and a substantial scholarship to say Vanderbilt, I don't know which I would choose. I have one more reason too, which I'll pm you.jt1341 wrote:171 3.39 is only getting in ED i would say. Yes, acceptance is the final stage. Counting on that LSAT score can be a dangerous game, but assuming that you get it, you'll be a splitter at most schools. And as best as I can tell, splitters have a decent shot at some good schools (with ED), but are almost always stuck paying sticker. Trust me, I'm in the same boat and I've finally come to terms with it. You can try your odds with RD, but your numbers will make for an unpredictable cycle, and scholarships are far from guaranteed.2014 wrote:I don't have an LSAT yet, so that is obviously what is the first hold up. Re: UVA Class of 2014
At least according to LSN my odds are going to end up as good at UM as they are at UVA with a solid LSAT and it would be nice to have options since they are comparable schools and both are college feeling campuses. I also do like Cornell and believe that with a UVA or UM acceptance in hand, they might throw something in the line of financial aid my way, we will see. If worst comes to worst and my LSAT is not good enough to look at RD, I can make a quick audible and ED then, or waiting a year wouldn't be the end of the world and my parents are on board with me living at home for a year and doing some traveling which wouldn't be the end of the world :p

retaking the LSAT october and applying. got a 167 the first time. 3.5 gpa. non-URM. overcame a disability. major disciplinary sanctions for a non-criminal non-illegal behavior with proof of lessons learned.
what LSAT score do i need to feel >50%?

Re: UVA Class of 2014
im fairly certain i'll be at a 171+. i did not really study last time (just took 3-4 practice tests.... didn't really research how important the LSAT was, take a course or do much studying. my 167 was up from a 165 diagnostic. everything i got wrong were largely the inference questions because i did not really understand what they meant so i'd just pick what sounded good. recently, i've been getting all mid 170s so we'll see.)

Re: UVA Class of 2014
id be applying pre-thanksgiving, but would not want to commit to UVA if I do get that 170+. my top schools that are realistic, because i know columbia combines would be UVA, Cornell and USC.

Not to be a dick, but if posters want advice regarding admissions, they'd be better off making a thread in the law school admissions forum. I'm sure many people, including myself, would be happy to assist as much as they can.

Why is it that on LSN for UVA (http://uva.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/0910/), there's so much yellow? It seems like the only people got in had really high GPA's or low GPA/high LSAT's.

Part of the admissions game is to have sweet numbers to report to ABA.cyxdev17 wrote:Why is it that on LSN for UVA (http://uva.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/0910/), there's so much yellow? It seems like the only people got in had really high GPA's or low GPA/high LSAT's.
UVA's median is 3.85 and 170, which is pretty insane; of course that doesnt mean the average applicant is 3.85/170.
From I can tell, UVA fills up its class with splitters and then subsidizes the class with good numbers with scholarships to people with numbers above both medians; hence the greens with high GPAs/low(ish)LSATs and high LSATs/low GPAs, but the sea of yellows in the middle.
simple example, a 3-person class:
170 LSAT, 3.2 GPA
170 LSAT, 3.85 GPA (given a 60k scholarship)
160 LSAT, 3.95 GPA
median of the class is 170, 3.85
mean of the class is 167, 3.65ish
Basically, if you have one number above a median/the other below, probably WL/accept, and probably accepted with ED.
If you have both numbers below both medians (i.e. 169, 3.83), probably rejected/WLed-> probably means u should go to Michigan
If you're above both, WL/accepted with scholarship.
There are also considerations like the fact that high LSATs are much rarer than high GPAs, hence the preference, not for just UVAs but for most schools, for high testtakers.
understand?
I really don't want to get into a discussion of UVA admissions in this thread though; want to celebrate with my future classmates here =)
