Re: NYU Class of 2014
I'm doing a program that includes a corp law internship and law preview course, so my summer will be all law all the time. And we're required to read GTM. I'm doing it for the experience more than the prep though. I've heard the previews usually don't help at all.

Re: NYU Class of 2014
Looking for work now...not planning on doing anything too related to law school, as I don't want to burn myself out even before 1L starts. I'll dive into it when I'm good and ready (or finals make me good and ready). Planning on possibly churning out an album during the downtime I have...maybe two if I have no work.
Read One L last year, and I'm still here, so it can't have worked too well.

I read Getting to Maybe, it's hard to apply the lessons without having any baseline knowledge though. I might re-read it, or alternately I might play xbox some more...

How relevant can One L be if the accounts in that book are ancient?

Relevant? I heard it's a good read. Besides, you might get Arthur Miller in your section and he's Perini.spacepenguin wrote:law_monkey wrote:Getting to Maybemelamine wrote:GTM?law_monkey wrote:I'm doing a program that includes a corp law internship and law preview course, so my summer will be all law all the time. It's definitely dated, but it's a quality book either way.

Re: NYU Class of 2014
Can anybody say what a typical 1L class schedule looks like? I mean classes/times/days-of-the-week?
(I'm cross-posting this in the NYU 3L relaxing thread.)

Re: NYU Class of 2014
you can figure it out from ASW information/NYU website. First quarter is Torts, Contracts and Civprof. and Lawyering.somewhere wrote:Can anybody say what a typical 1L class schedule looks like? I mean classes/times/days-of-the-week?

2nd quarter is Constitutional Law and criminal Law + electives. (is this right?)
They have a general look at what "blocks" classes are scheduled into.

You can probably extrapolate, based on weeding out conflicts.
(Actually, that would be fun to do. Also extremely nerdy)

Re: NYU Class of 2014
Depends on your section. Everybody takes civ pro and contracts in the fall and administrative & regulatory state and an elective in the spring, and lawyering all year, but three sections had torts fall semester and crim spring semester, while two had crim first and then torts. Con law is required eventually but if you take it in your first year it's as your elective.melamine wrote:you can figure it out from ASW information/NYU website. Lawyering - Radice/Arkles/Mikkor T 12-2 R 9-11 F 10-11
Section 4:
Contracts - Marotta-Wurgler W 2-4 F 12-2
CivPro - McKenzie T 12-2 R 10-12 F 11-12
Torts - Epstein MW 9-11

Crim Law - Schulhofer W 2-4 F 12-2

Crim Law - TBA MW 9-11
Elective - MR 2-4
Lawyering - Simowitz/Tinto/Lu T 12-2 R 9-11 F 10-11
Electives: Con Law, Corporations, Taxation, International, Property
FIRST SEMESTER: Note that sections 1-3 and 5 require 9am starts 5 days a week, whereas section 4 has a delayed Thurs start and Tuesday mornings completely blank. (Combine that with 3 of the profs I want and I'm going to hope damn hard for section 4.)
Note also that sections 1, 2, and 5 have Wednesday and Friday afternoons completely off, and section 3 gets Wednesday afternoons off as well. (Having to deal with Miller has something to do with section 3's kind of strange sched, except when it doesn't.)
SECOND SEMESTER: All five sections pretty much follow the same schedule, although they take different classes in each block. Three days a week at 9am, and the other two days with a late start. Mon/Weds/Thurs are late days, but that means Tuesday and Friday you're out pretty early. The fact that you're only taking 14.5 credits (17 class hours) vs. 15.5 credits (18 class hours) makes a small but noticeable difference in the amount of time you have, it seems

I vote Turtle Monster. If I have absolutely have to choose between the two though, I'd go with Brooklyn.law_monkey wrote:I'M GETTING A KITTEHHHHHH!!! Re: NYU Class of 2014
Well, if you take a look at the class list, you'll notice that each class has a .001 through .005 attached to end of the course number. Put those together, and the lawyering sections followed just based on the way it was laid out/scheduling.glitched wrote:where did you find this?
I'm adding the spring courses to the list as well now, because I might as well gun to the fullest extent now

Residence Hall people: what day are you guys planning to fly in? Also, isn't it a bit ridiculous that they charge an early move-in fee if you need to move in during orientation?

Re: NYU Class of 2014
I sorta want to move in Monday or so. The additional fee per day is cheaper than a hotel. Then I can get settled and meet up with friends in The area before orientation craziness begins.re-applicant wrote:Residence Hall people: what day are you guys planning to fly in? That's my thought as of now, but it's liable to change on a semi-daily basis.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
