Well well well, if it isn't my cycle twin.
Where in BK do you live?
Cobble Hill.
Are you hitting up NYU as well, twin?
I AM EXCITE TO MEET YOU ALL

EDIT: Also, LOL at the idea that even if Dakota Fanning and Hermione Granger do end up at NYU, they do anything but Gallatin and are therefore never actually physically AT NYU.
Same goes for Franco, law_monkey...he's getting, like, 4 more MFAs this upcoming year.

Franco is a robot anyway. His primary source of energy must be eating MFAs

Ya I'm headed downtown in August. Why would going to Gallatin mean they not at NYU? I assume they'd take mostly CAS and Tisch classes.

Because Gallatin kids don't have to do anything if they don't want. The Olsens went to Gallatin.
(This is a total stereotype of mine, btw. Don't be offended if you know people/did Gallatin yourself!)

Naw I was CAS. And yeah, Gallatin is an excuse to be pretty soft (not that there aren't plenty of other UG majors that are soft too). They still have to take classes on campus though.
More generally though, it doesn't matter a whole lot if someone's going to NYU or not. New York is crawling with celebrities, so you can go find them if you're motivated. Er, I mean hot, rich or famous. Preferably some combination thereof.

So for everyone headed to Brooklyn...where are you looking? I'm strongly considering Brooklyn, but Harlem/Morningside is still under consideration. I'm torn, esp since I haven't spent much time in either area.
@LinzerTorte-- what's the commute to Manhattan REALLY like?
I value my space and peace of mind (and trees, parks, chill people) so I'd rather not be in Manhattan but I am worried about having a long commute and being packed like a sardine on the F (again, i value my personal space lol). Is the commute from BK worse than the commute from Harlem?

Yeah this thread had gone too long without any celebrity gossip.
In other news, I activated my NYU email today. So stoked.

Still waiting for my email. You think they'll yell at me if I call only 8 days after I sent my form in?

Yeah, it's still telling me I'm not a current student, and the money hasn't made its way out of my checking account yet.
Calling tomorrow I suppose, yay paranoia

I didn't even know NYU Law had a newspaper, but apparently they do --LinkRemoved--
One of the articles talks about going paperless with the Kindle. I'm definitely getting one before school starts and would love to be able to use it for class, but it sounds like this girl goes through a lot to get her casebooks and other materials on there.

I am a dedicated luddite; they can tear my paper books out of my cold, dead hands.
The sad part about those ebook readers is that they apparently don't handle reference works very well, which is the thing they'd be most useful for. I'd love to be able to carry a copy of Garner's Modern American Usage around with me.

Because the battery lasts for weeks (literally) and there's no glare (or fingerprints) on the glass. And it doesn't keep you awake at night with its glow.
The iPad is great, but the Kindle's also great and better at the limited thing it's great at.

Haha - i created my e-mail account. Then sent an e-mail to the account from another address, only to get the message that the delivery failed because the e-mail account doesn't exist.

Oh, and speaking of going paperless:
Black's Law Dictionary is available as an iPhone/iPad app (universal, so buy it once and it will go on both). It's really expensive for an app, but still cheaper than the book, and you can carry it in your pocket and look stuff up much faster.

Yeah, it takes a few hours before it can receive emails. But you can send them right away! Go figure...

Yeah the glare (and price...) are what's keeping me from jumping on the Ipad bandwagon. Staring at a computer all day has already begun to ruin my eye sight.

I got a Kindle at the end of last summer and it has infinitely improved my QOL. I don't use it for school at all, but I'm a major bookworm and I use it A LOT.
