Mr. Faulk told me on the phone that he was surprised to see me this morning when I delivered the contract, because they already made the decision to accept me earlier this week. Now the amazing part: he waived my ED contract so I will be able to compare the potential future financial packages from other schools   :D

How gracious is that! What a decent gesture!
Wow this is incredible....

Why would any admissions officer do this? I mean it is an amazing gesture, but is of ZERO benefit to the school lol

Congrats!
Well, it benefits the school's reputation. Everyone who read this now knows that UVA is staffed by wonderful human beings.
I was shocked by how nice the UVA adcomms were during my visit. IMO, they are nicest adcomms in the country. You'd expect the exact opposite from how highly UVA is ranked.

Hmmm. Ok, thanks. I just now noticed on the status check email they underlined the note saying that they will email us when they receive the form, so I'm a bit hesitant to call, for fear of looking like I don't know how to read haha. I might give them through the weekend just in case. Maybe all that snow up north slowed down the mail service. I KNEW I should have sent it fed-ex!

I just signed a lease at Jefferson Ridge.

So #42 will be off the Jeffersonian waitlist. Good luck to everyone behind me haha.

Yea they were built in 2004 so they are like brand new. The apartments were really nice and the cheapest one bedroom which is what my girlfriend and I ended up going with is 877 square feet compared with a 2 bedroom at Jeffersonian being 795.

After looking around there were pros and cons to each apartment complex and in general they are pretty well documented on the forum. I went down there a week ago just to look at apartments (and show my parents the law school) so I can only give you what I saw on a week off but I'll answer anything I can.

So it sounds like 1br apt there would totally be enough for two people. Do you know how the drive is from the apartment to school? Is the traffic between bad?

I know that with the no traffic we were experiencing it was about an 8 minute drive either on the local roads or the highway route. My assumption is that the highway route is a lot faster once all the students get back. So I'm estimating it at about 12-15 minutes on a normal day.

As far as the one bedroom apartment being big enough it honestly depends on how you live. The 1 BR has a built in desk with shelving above it. It's like a big alcove between the living room and the bedroom. And when I say big I mean its like 6' x 10' from the end of kitchen to the other wall. Obviously part of that has to be left open as a hallway. Originally we were looking for a two bedroom because I wanted a separate study as I prefer to study at home when possible. However, it was really hard to justify it when a lot of the places we saw were not as nice/smaller even if they had walls for the bedroom. We're gonna try to put up shelves and see if we can make it feel a little more secluded. I will say that the kitchen wasn't huge but more then enough for 2 people to cook in, IMO. The living room and bedroom were each gigantic. While the bathroom was larger then most other places we saw it wasn't overly wide (though wide enough - I'm just saying its not like a premium sized bathroom or anything) despite it being fairly long to accommodate everything it has in it.

In short assuming you don't need to barricade yourselves in separately too often I think its easily big enough for any couple. The quality though was what gets you. Since its all so new its extremely impressive especially when you see something like the outside of the Jeffersonian, which looked dated, or the inside of eagles landing - which looked like quintessential undergraduate housing and felt extremely small and dark.

How much was a 1 bed 1 bath? Do they have an option of a 1 bed 1 bath with a den?

1125 a month and 1350 a month respectively. This includes everything except electricity.

The 1 BR w/ den had a separate closet for the laundry machine which was nice. They are full size in every apartment though stacked in some and not stacked in others, this means the bathroom with that floor plan is slightly less crowded. It also had a more open kitchen and the study was quite big. I just wasn't willing to shell out another couple thousand dollars after seeing the difference. I could certainly see why people would want to though. The living room was smaller though, to me it seemed significantly smaller but that may just be my opinion.

They look nice, and the commute on 64 and 250 should be pretty easy if the more direct route is busy. Still it's expensive, even for Charlottesville and it's not exactly close to anything.

You can get a three bedroom townhouse in nice areas with a similar commute for that price.

I'll agree that its not overly cheap. But looking at it from a perspective of someone who can't make trips (7 hours) to visit private listings many of us have to pick a place that we can't see. As such it makes most sense to go to an apartment complex which at least has reviews and hopefully certain standards.

While I may move out of Jefferson Ridge next year when I can afford to look at private listings, now I'm sorta stuck in a hole. In comparison to the other places I looked - other apartment complexes, for the space, it isn't really as expensive as it might seem.

This might have been asked before, but it very uncomfortable searching since I am typing from a phone in a foreign country. So, when is the Admitted Students Day? I'd love to come to that even though I'll be coming from overseas directly. Thanks

The Invitational is the 4/1 weekend, great weekend to be a UVA Law student (or prospective UVA Law student).

There are plenty of affordable places in Charlottesville. http://www.brac.com has apartments, there are usually lots more and often cheaper options available in the local papers and on Craigslist.

On law school numbers there is only 1 person in the past 3 years who applied ED and has reported any scholarship info. I know that Dean Trujillo has gone on the record to say that ED applicants are treated the same as RD applicants for merit scholarship purposes but I haven't been able to find any proof of this.

There are a number of UVa ED LSN profiles showing 173+ LSAT but no scholarship info.

Does anybody here have personal or anecdotal evidence that they actually do give big scholarships to ED applicants with strong numbers?

What GPA do the 173+ applicants have? Too lazy to search it, but I presume the vast majority of EDers don't have strong numbers, no?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
