According to Wikipedia, "the Federal government of the United States put non-essential government workers on furlough and suspended non-essential services from November 14 through November 19, 1995 and from December 16, 1995 to January 6, 1996"AreJay711 wrote:TheStrand wrote:Yay. You know, I know this is a petty compared to people furloughed but I wonder if the govt shutdown is going to fuck up our student aid. The last shutdown lasted a while right?

Did anyone put in an application to Phid House for the Fall?
If so, when will they get back to us?

Actually, I applied to the Phid House! we are supposed to hear back by April 15th. Did you get any kind of confirmation though when you submitted your app? I've been mildly worrying that I somehow didn't actually submit mine.

I haven't posted in this thread, but I've lurked a lot. I was accepted a few weeks ago and will be going to visit the school this week. So far, I think Michigan is my top choice, but I've never lived where it snows! I really hope the school is as nice as I've heard.

No email, but I think a short confirmation page popped up after hitting 'send.' Post on here if you hear back before then, I'm super anxious and good luck!gbs24 wrote:Actually, I applied to the Phid House! we are supposed to hear back by April 15th. I can't remember the response time but they send you an email to register you Michigan username and email account. The email program they use sucks but they give you instructions about how to tie it to your gmail account.denardisgod wrote:Does anyone know what kind of response they send you/how long it takes after sending in your seat deposit? I sent mine in last Monday and I haven't heard anything yet. (I currently live in Ann Arbor, so, unless the mail was incredibly slow, I am pretty sure they have received the deposit by now.)

Yeah but I just realized that Ann Arbor is littered with independent coffee shops (here in Chicago Starbucks drove most of the good independent shops out of business years ago). We will have to find some cool place to meet and grow each others' brains.thelaststraw05 wrote:That's at State and Main?er doctor wrote:OMG I totally forgot about study groups. Let's get one started. The nice thing about that starbucks is that it is two levels. There is also a two level Espresso Royale at S University and E University.er doctor wrote:Yeah but I just realized that Ann Arbor is littered with independent coffee shops (here in Chicago Starbucks drove most of the good independent shops out of business years ago). Re: Michigan Class of 2014
So, I have a question about turning my deposit and acceptance form in... Does that commit me to attending Michigan or just ensure that my spot is held? Duke, for example, explicitly says in its acceptance form that I must withdraw all my other applications upon turning in its form and deposit. Michigan doesn't have this sort of language in its form though--it just says that by turning it in with my deposit, I intend to go to Michigan.
The reason I ask is that I still haven't heard back from all the schools I've applied to, and even from one I've gotten in at, I still haven't heard about financial aid yet. Michigan is my top choice from those I am in at with a known financial aid package, but more information from other schools might make me lean in their favor instead. In essence, I'd like to send my deposit and form in to Michigan, but still be capable of attending a different school should the playing field change. Is this kosher?

I'm not sure if sending in your deposit counts as matriculation, but I'm pretty sure it does.Michigan wrote:Prior to matriculating at the University of Michigan Law School, you will not have enrolled in another law school either as a degree candidate or as a non-degree, not-for-credit student. Exceptions to this condition can be made only in the most unusual circumstances and require express written permission in advance of matriculation.

Re: Michigan Class of 2014
I read that as saying, "Hey guy, don't be enrolled somewhere else while trying to enroll here." But I'm not trying to enroll anywhere else simultaneously, I just want to be able to keep my apps open at other places and be able to opt out of Michigan should one of these other schools offer me a deal I can't refuse.
I guess it is kind of ambiguous though... Berkeley has three options when responding back: "accept," "tentative accept," and "decline." I did the second one, and as far as I understand, that just means they'll hold my spot for me (doesn't mean I've "enrolled," per se). In June, a firm answer is required. I notice that Michigan also requires another response in June (or at least another deposit).
Anyway, if I can't keep some of my apps open, how do people attend schools they were waitlisted at? Presumably someone like this would have sent a deposit into some other school, and withdrew once s/he heard the good news about getting off the waitlist.
