I am going to, and I think I convinced piccolittle to, but my guess is probably around 70% live in some kind of on-campus housing. (totally wild guess, not based on anything)daisyduke wrote:Hey everyone! Just joining this thread. I got my VCE a week ago and joined the FB group too
Question, does anyone know if most students live in the dorm 1L?

I hear law school is just like high school but everyone can drink legally. How hard could that be?UnitarySpace wrote:So excited and eager to start law school. If only you could know what is to come...

I've perused the admitted students binder, but I don't feel like I have a good sense for how much the dorms cost. Can you realistically live in a dorm for under $1000 a month? I'm fine with flat-mates & such.vertex wrote:I am going to, and I think I convinced piccolittle to, but my guess is probably around 70% live in some kind of on-campus housing. My girlfriend might or might not be living with me (she's applied to music schools in both NYC and Boston), so I kinda need to have a plan for both scenarios hehe.

There are suites (single rooms with shared common areas and bathrooms among 4 or more people) on 113th st for around 800.

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2014
i haven't gotten the binder yet, does it say anywhere in there how many students live in the dorms? iirc, nyu says 2/3 of 1Ls live in theirs...so it might be the same? regardless, i'm going to live in the dorms for 1L because craigslisting a NYC apt from California sounds like a terrible idea haha

Considering all of the drama going on in the admissions thread, I wonder if I should be ecstatic or insulted that I was admitted in the first RD batch. Is Columbia saying they want me or "You're going to come here, you won't have any better options?"

Hey guys! Excited to meet everyone.
Would someone mind telling me the admitted students day?. I'm trying to plan out my asw schedule, but my package was sent to my permanent address, so I don't have all the info in front of me.
Thanks!

March 2-3 and March 30-31. You have to register online, and they give instructions on how to do that in the admitted students handbook.CapHillLove wrote:Hey guys! Excited to meet everyone.

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2014
Just registered for the second one! I'm going to the NYU one in April so I will be spending the full two days. I'm close enough to commute in to the city, debating whether I want to get a hotel room. My boyfriend lives in Newark maybe I'll just chill with him over night. Yeah, that's what I'll do!
See you all there!

Random question: do people usually take families (parents) to admitted student weekends?

If you want to, I say do it, whether or not most people do. Visiting the ivy league law school their daughter got into is like catnip for parents.daisyduke wrote:Random question: do people usually take families (parents) to admitted student weekends?

I agree... Even if it is unusual, it will probably be worth the joy you'll be giving them...thunderflesh wrote:If you want to, I say do it, whether or not most people do. Re: Columbia Law Class of 2014
Does anyone ITT have any experience with the non-dorm housing options that columbia offers? Specifically, the non-dorm graduate housing? Is that impossible for law students to get?

Most law students live in law student housing. These are usually apartment shares or studios. Only a few law students live in proper dorms.

Yes, the options I mentioned above can all be obtained through the university.moneko wrote:thanks vertex!vertex wrote:Welcome moneko!moneko wrote:hi everybody
is this also through the university housing? i found their website to be kind of terribleUnitarySpace wrote:There are suites (single rooms with shared common areas and bathrooms among 4 or more people) on 113th st for around 800.and i feel like the questions i would have most to a current CLS student right now would be detailed housing Qs: how big, how clean, etc. i don't mind sharing, but gosh darn i'm poor :/
How big? meh. This really depends on your luck. Depending on positioning, you could get a really spacious apartment. Or you could get a little box. If you ask UAH for floor plans, I'm sure they would be happy to oblige.
How clean? This depends on your roommates. If you and your roommates are clean people, your apartment will be clean.
If you have other questions feel free to ask them here or in a PM.

I was thinking more in terms of facility cleanliness... for off-campus at Berkeley for example it's typical (in <$1000/mo places) for sinks to back up, showers to break, and our carpeting is old enough even if the landlord DID steam clean it before we moved in (we had to take his word on it... we couldn't tell) it's been through so much that there is no way to tell what color it should have been. I'm willing to live in my own filth

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
