Yeah, I don't particularly plan on asking a lot of questions unless I don't understand things. Which means I'll be asking questions all the time.... kidding. You do realize that the professors are going to ask questions of the class right? You guys are going to get called on, and then you're going to have to talk. Hopefully the actual gunners won't be completely retarded.thecilent wrote:Yeah that's the kind of shizz that will piss me off, too. But yeah, in undergrad I only really ground it out during finals. School is pretty sweet, lots of nice, predictable deadlines, so you can plan your shit way in advance. Seems like finals will still be crunch time, but you'll have plenty of time to prep. Studying 40 hours a week all semester sounds like a lot, but, how much time do we spend in class? I figured it's just like a job, except I'm paying instead of getting paid. Cram shit through all day, do whatever the hell I want at night. It may or may not work like that, but seems like there will be plenty of time to study.

Re: NYU Class of 2014
Agreed. From what I've heard if people use their time between classes wisely it's really easy to leave evenings and weekends free for what you want to do (may be social, but may also be law school events). It's around finals that everyone will be putting in the work. I just hope there aren't awkward silences. Whenever a prof asks something in class that I know the answer to and no one says anything and it's just this long awkward pause I always feel the need to fill it. But then, I don't really expect to know the answers a lot of the time in law school.ahduth wrote:Yeah, I don't particularly plan on asking a lot of questions unless I don't understand things. From talking to the students there, it seems like there are very few people who are constantly swamped with work and are unable to do social-type things.
First few weeks are going to be horribly nerve-wracking, though. Y'all better pass me notes when I get called on

And I remember some students saying they go out 3-4 nights per week. Granted that was at the bar, so probably some self-selection in that sample.

I was going to say..It's one thing having the time to have a social life, it's another trying to afford it. My complete (mis)understanding of NYC is that everything is 600 billion times more expensive than anywhere else on the western hemisphere.
I really hope the student expense budget that NYU calculates leaves room for fun.

It should. I'm from LA so hopefully it won't be too big of a price differential for a night out. I've partied in NYC before and I'm used to $15-$18 drinks at bars. Buying bottles before hand and getting trashed BEFORE you hit the bar will probably be TCR to save $.spacepenguin wrote:RJ127 wrote:My COL loans are going to be through the roof. Honestly, I've never spent more than $30 dollars on myself going out...I guess I'll be the one loser who stays in the library on weekends.RJ127 wrote:

As am I...but even then, you're going to want to relieve the stress of working 40 hours a week at some point.

Doesn't the male:female ratio swing aggressively in the guy's favor in NYC? Maybe I should be expecting people to buy me drinks...law_monkey wrote:Since I'm a girl I fully expect the guys to keep my alcohol supply going. Didn't you get the RTK scholarship?
In the spirit of economic egalitarianism and a progressive redistribution of wealth...I will take my payment in drinks, thank you.

I've never heard that, but I wouldn't be surprised. I was just kidding, but I do know a woman who is 27 and has yet to buy her own alcohol. She goes out a lot too, so it's not just that she's a major homebody.ahduth wrote:Doesn't the male:female ratio swing aggressively in the guy's favor in NYC? I guess I'll just save my 1L and 2L earnings for alcohol money instead of paying down my loans...

Sooo...now that my decision has been made and I'm no longer constantly checking forums on choosing a law school, any suggestions on other websites I can keep myself occupied with while I'm at work? about nyc or nyu in general? or things that would be useful for law school?

I'm just assuming my alcohol budget from 1L summer earnings will be close to $0, because I will be bottom 10% and lose any job I somehow luck into before that.law_monkey wrote:Better start working it then to make sure you have 1L earnings.birdlaw117 wrote:I guess I'll just save my 1L and 2L earnings for alcohol money instead of paying down my loans...Just kidding. <3
