Go to preferences and customize your address. Make sure you know what you want though because you can only change it once per year.

Yes, the "personal address" is really just an (easier-to-remember) alias that gets delivered to the NYU Home address. You can set up an email client (on your computer, phone, whatever) to display and reply through the personal address, but your login will always be the NYU Home address.

Yeah if you read the fine print (which I'm totally lame and I did), it says it takes a couple hours before you can start receiving messages.

Chicago-vintage hipster just doesn't involve looking like you crawled out of a dumpster somewhere.

LA peoples, is anyone interested in a meet-up this Friday?

I'm thinking 6:30p-ish, maybe in Westwood or SMC (only because they are selfishly convenient for me).

PM me if you're interested and I'm happy to coordinate.

I'm still confused. What's wrong with The Wire? I only saw the first three seasons, but I thought it was really good. And it's set in Baltimore anyways.

Can't speak for them, but judging by the scope of its literary ambition, I'd say it's probably the greatest show in the history of television.

Also, the fourth season focuses on the public school system, and as far as I know it's the first (and only) depiction in the history of the motion picture to get an impoverished urban school district right.

TITCR. They even have a class based on The Wire at Harvard Law. Other schools should follow. The Wire is the most underrated show of all time. It never won the awards, just the hearts of everyone who watched.

I wasn't aware that it was taught in any law schools, but it certainly has been the focus of undergrad courses at many schools. And it's "underrated" in only a peculiar sense: it never won major awards, and never got great ratings (these two things are surely related); but it has been called the greatest show in the history of television by many, many critics.

Edit:
Part of the problem it had with ratings and awards may have been related to the greatness of its ambition: you can't watch just one episode, any more than you can read just a section of a chapter of Tolstoy. Lots of shows these days are "novelistic" in that they have narrative arcs that span whole seasons, but none quite to the degree of The Wire, which is hardly even "episodic" despite its being chopped into episodes. The "episodes" are like installments of a novel being published serially. You need to watch at least a whole season.

Not only do you have to digest The Wire in 12-episode chunks, but a LOT of the dialect is pretty thick, and there is very little exposition. You really have to pay attention, or you'll miss so many things. (I think I've been through my box set 4 or 5 times and I'm still noticing new things, and I -hate- rewatching almost anything)

So, I got an email yesterday saying that NYU "will sending out appeal decisions within this week."

First time I read it, I figured it might be by today, but I'm not sure if that's the correct way to interpret it. Anybody here appeal? How long did it take for you guys to get info back?

I think I submitted my appeal March 28, and got my reply back April 11. So around 2 weeks.
