Yeah I'm at Arlington Court. It's pretty nice. 3-4 minute walk to the law school. Around 10 minute walk to the grocery store. Good times.gladiator wrote:Don't live in Copeley. I'm looking for a one bedroom deal within walking distance of the law school. Price isn't too much of an issue. I've been looking strongly at the Copeley Apartments, but the only 1-bedroom option is under family housing. Anyone know if those open up to singles if not enough families move in?
I'm open to alternatives as well- just has to be walkable. Any ideas?

UVA unfortunately doesnt have large lay prestigue. Im shocked that you hear this in Virginia. Its just like michigan though, not much lay prestigueDeep Trench wrote:Thanks. "Why don't you attend William and Mary? I heard that they have a good law school."
"Isn't UVA known for a good MBA program?"
"Congratulations. I heard that UVA is harder to get into than even some of the top ten schools."
But, UVA IS a top ten school.![]()
"You mean it is a top ten public school?"
I have gotten some hilarious comments, too.Deep Trench wrote:Thanks. Some of the comments that I have heard from my friends so far:

+1I'm happy about the lack of lay prestige, honestly. It means that my enthusiasm is not mistaken for pretentiousness.
The "why not" is such a rude question. I don't see any reason to ask or a good way to answer. I either have to dis some other school, which I don't want to do, or extol the virtues of UVA, which is kind of awkward.turkeysub wrote:And yeah, I've also been getting the why not WM thing a lot...in VA they both have a lot of and pretty much equal UG lay prestige so people I guess just assume that it carries over to law schools too.
People at UT (my UG) always ask why im not going to UT law, or say "oh so you didnt get into UT?" its hard to answer i dont wanna just be like "Oh, actually, UVA is much better"plenipotentiary wrote:The "why not" is such a rude question. Don't question my choices, Nosy Parker. Just say you're happy for me.
Amen, I get the exact same thing in Florida. "So I guess you didn't get enough points on the L-S-A-T's to get into UF?" There's no good answer.AssumptionRequired wrote:People at UT (my UG) always ask why im not going to UT law, or say "oh so you didnt get into UT?" its hard to answer i dont wanna just be like "Oh, actually, UVA is much better"plenipotentiary wrote:The "why not" is such a rude question. Really? UF is barely in the top50 right? do people really think its better then Virginia/Michigan? UT is ranked 15 so even people who are applying to LS ask me loltommynobody wrote:Amen, I get the exact same thing in Florida. Although it may be shocking for the TLS members, the general public doesn't know much about THE ranking. I even get asked, "Why do you want to move to Charlottesville to attend the public school when there is a private school where you live?" For some people, public means mediocre and private means good. I live in Richmond by the way.YCrevolution wrote:Not even top 50 with the latest rankings.AssumptionRequired wrote: Really? Yeah, the concept of being from Florida and not wanting to attend UF boggles people's minds around here.AssumptionRequired wrote:O damnYCrevolution wrote:Not even top 50 with the latest rankings.AssumptionRequired wrote: Really? +1 people were definitely more impressed here when I told them I got into UF as opposed to Michigan. If it is not an Ivy chances are the best state school is going to have more lay prestige.tommynobody wrote:Yeah, the concept of being from Florida and not wanting to attend UF boggles people's minds around here.AssumptionRequired wrote:O damnYCrevolution wrote:Not even top 50 with the latest rankings.AssumptionRequired wrote: Really? i'm not sure there are 9 month leases in charlottesville. certainly not in desirable housing near the law school. it's not what you might call a buyer's market.upalittletoolate wrote:If you don't mind me asking, how did you find your place? Craiglist, driving around, etc.? Is it a 9 or 12 month lease?
I got mine off Craigslist. I actually had never seen the apartment before I rented it out. I'm from out in California and didn't get into the school until late so never really had a chance to visit apartments. I saw the place on craigslist and asked ycrev and vanwinkle about it and they approved.upalittletoolate wrote:

Now there's a charge.
