Should I give up Law Review and Org. President?

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Jul 09, 2020 1:48 am

I attended a really low ranked law school in my state (GA) with the goal of transferring to GSU Law when 1L year was over. Of course several people told me this was a bad idea because most people never make it out 🙄 But, I defied the odds and not only graded in the top 10% of my class, but landed an invite into law review and a position as a president of a popular organization on campus.

I still applied to GSU Law and I got in. Is transferring worth me losing my shot at law review and org. pres. even though my school is lowly ranked as is? GSU law is more affordable, has way more amenities, and had way better OCI’s and clinic opportunities as well. I’m still leaning toward leaving my school for better job prospects, and because GSU is my alma mater and it was always my dream to go (I just got a shitty LSAT score and got waitlisted the first time.) Generally, I just need someone to assure me that I’ll be able to be as involved as a transfer at GSU as I could be on my campus in the coming year if I stay.

Advice on making the best of my remaining years, and making new connections fast at my new school are welcome as well!

I think you have answered the question the question yourself :)

I'd transfer just for employment alone - b/c really in the end (and money is not an issue for you), my philosophy on transferring is to make sure your job prospects don't diminish and are enhanced.

I would transfer. GSU is cheaper and better for employment than even a good setup at AJMLS.

I transferred to another school, but I was able to get involved in several student orgs, including main law review. Feel free to DM me about how to get involved on campus as a transfer. Make sure to do GSU's write-on if you can. Make sure to talk to administrators about how to get involved, join orgs, get to work on pro bono, etc.
