Poll: Best school I can transfer to?
I would appreciate your input! Currently top 6-7% at a T2 in NY area. Please only choose an answer if there is a *good chance* I could get into it. Thanks!

Depends on your GPA also, not just your rank---look at the ABA 509 forms for these schools to see what they take. I think you're a shoo-in at Fordham and probably in (but not a lock) at NYU. Columbia will depend on your GPA and other things you can't control, e.g. how many other people from your particular Rutgers/Seton Hall/St. Johns school apply and look better than you do.

Thank you for your feedback! FWIW, GPA is a 3.85decimalsanddollars wrote:Depends on your GPA also, not just your rank---look at the ABA 509 forms for these schools to see what they take. Any opinions out there, generally -- does it even make sense to transfer (take out bigger loans) given the current circumstances?

Depends on the cost difference and career goals. If cost difference is huge, maybe not; if modest, probably. If career goals are lofty, probably yes; if modest, perhaps not. Assuming your current situation is low-cost, it's a good position to be in. If the increase in cost would not be much, though, it probably makes sense to transfer.charlemagne20 wrote:Any opinions out there, generally -- does it even make sense to transfer (take out bigger loans) given the current circumstances?

What are your goals? Big Law? If not big law - I would not transfer b/c going to a Fordham or NYU will be nearly 60K year on tuition alone. Especially in these times.
Even if Big Law is your goal - does someone in your range place with a NY firm (more a pro dev question - and they should give you an honest answer).

Thanks all, for your input. The ideal goal would be Big Fed, but potentially would go Big Law to get there. I'm also a non-traditional student with a related career (7 years) behind me. The draw to going to NYU or Columbia (am not going to apply to Fordham) would be to make this goal more attainable, although I do know that people from my school can get there if they do well enough (albeit it's obviously harder than coming from a T6). Another reason is that I don't currently have a full scholarship (I have 30k a year). But we'll see.

I’d say transfer if you get in. Odds are pretty good, looking at 509 reports. Well above median at NYU and a little for COlumbia. Good luck.
