What do I need to do to transfer?

Post by getmeout123 » Sun Mar 01, 2020 6:53 pm

Hi, everyone. I really want to transfer law schools but am a bit lost as to the process.

1) Do I need to ask my current law school for anything or can I just submit my apps end of May?
2)When should I ask my professors for letters of rec? How will they upload their letters if the applications arent live yet?
3) Can I use my old lsat login?

I'll answer these a bit out of order, but

3) Yep, and you have to. Also, professors who write transfer rec letters will upload them to LSAC in basically the same manner as your rec letters for 1L admission.
2) Depends on the professor and your relationship with them. If a first-semester prof gave you an A and they like you and you trust them, I would talk to them sometime soon about your transfer plan and see if they will write a letter. For second-semester profs, you should have the conversation during this semester but before the exam crunch, although you can wait to actually ask for a letter until you get a grade from them.
1) You'll need a letter of good standing from your sender school, and this can be a hassle to get. You may also need to get one after final 1L grades come out, even if you get one this semester.
