Disciplinary Action
Looking to transfer after this year, but had an issue that may negatively affect the transfer process.
Due to a glitch and failure on my part to clearly communicate with a professor, there was an instance this year in which this professor was concerned about what happened. I had to meet with the dean and he spoke with me about the importance of being extremely careful in these types of situations, due to it seeming like a honor code violation. Nothing was formally done regarding this situation. Is this something to disclose as disciplinary action? And if so, does anyone know how detrimental this will be?

Re: Disciplinary Action
I'm not sure if you have to disclose anything. I would maybe talk to the registrar and see if you have any disciplinary marks on your record or transcript. Whatever you do, don't describe this to your target schools the way you described it to us, cause it sounds kind of sketchy and like your'e making an excuse for something you did wrong. Professors are pretty smart and probably don't get concerned about things unless something was up.Anonymous User wrote:Looking to transfer after this year, but had an issue that may negatively affect the transfer process.

I agree the vagueness and talking in circles seems very suspect. Best of luck though with everything.eyeofvigilence wrote:I'm not sure if you have to disclose anything. OP here.
Part of the vagueness within this is due to attempting to preserve my complete anonymity, so I apologize about that.
But yes, I do understand how the entire thing looked, and I will speak with the registrar.
Thank you for the advice.

Good luck man. If it's not on the registrar or on your transcript-- freaking bury that crap and don't bring it up to your target schools.

Re: Disciplinary Action
This question is far too vague for anyone to be of assistance.
You're basically saying that there was a "certain incident" and it seems like it may or not be an honor code violation, and the dean thinks you should be very careful about this.
... wait, what?
What does this even mean? What the heck are you asking?

Re: Disciplinary Action
I would check with the registar just to be 100% sure, but I'm almost certain that you're fine. If you weren't formally punished, there very likely isn't a record of it. Even if there is a record, I'm even more certain you do not need to disclose it.Anonymous User wrote:Nothing was formally done regarding this situation.
It's such a dumb disclosure, either way. I was on academic probation for one quarter during my undergrad and I had to write an essay explaining the situation. USC even forced me to ask the dean to mail them about the situation. Silly stuff.
Edit: Don't worry about people telling you you're being vague. You weren't punished. Nothing happened. If there even is a record of what happened, you will very, very likely not need to disclose it.
Let me guess, though: Plagiarism?

Re: Disciplinary Action
lol.. I didn't mean to sound so sketchy, guys. I may be overly paranoid about something identifying me.
Ok so it wasn't plagiarism, but it had to do with turning something in by a deadline, and a mistake I made in doing so, which could make it look like I was lying.
Professor was like "This looks bad. I'm going to trust that you are being honest, but I did talk to the dean."
Dean was like "This looks bad. Don't let this happen again. Ethics are very important. However, we don't feel any action needs to be taken on this."
I'm sorry I just don't feel comfortable sharing more detailed info... is that at all understandable?

Did you date a paper the day before it was due, but then turned it in a day late, and said that it was written two days ago?Anonymous User wrote:lol.. I didn't mean to sound so sketchy, guys. I may be overly paranoid about something identifying me.

You're going to be fine. Just double check with registrar. But if Dean cleared you of any wrong doing-- definitely don't report it.Anonymous User wrote:lol.. I didn't mean to sound so sketchy, guys. I may be overly paranoid about something identifying me.

Did you turn in something by the deadline and continue to edit it thereafter, only to turn in the revised work product after the deadline but suggesting that it was what you had intended to send in the first instance?Anonymous User wrote:DCfilterDC wrote:Did you date a paper the day before it was due, but then turned it in a day late, and said that it was written two days ago?Anonymous User wrote:lol.. To be completely honest, I did not do anything which would violate the honor code. But unfortunately I handled things poorly, in such a way that I can completely understand how they would find it suspicious.
Thank you all for your feedback, by the way. Despite the suspicion within some responses, you all have made me laugh about the situation, which is kind of nice.

Re: Disciplinary Action
To transfer you need the Dean to fill out a letter stating that you are in good standing with the law school. If he/she does that then you have nothing to worry about.
