Hi all,

I'm going to throw transfer apps at the top schools, and have a few questions about the process.

1.) I'm gonna apply to the T-6. I'm assuming all these schools take transfer apps via LSAC, right? To apply, I just go to 'Apply', choose the particular school, and when the transfer app is available, it will be an option? I ask because right now I only see a regular application option for these schools.

2.) LOR. Is the process for submitting LORs the same as the regular app process? I use LSAC to create a 'recommender', input their info, send the prof the form, then they send it in? Second, most of these schools allow non-law prof LORs. Should I submit the two (or one--however many the particular school allows) already uploaded on my LSAC page? Their content will reveal they were LORs written for my initial admission to LS, but would a school care? After all, if I reached out to the recommenders (undergrad professors) to rewrite the letter, the content of the new letter would be practically identical to the one on LSAC.

3.) Is there anything I need to tell/do at my current school, other than request the registrar send my transcript to the transfer schools? I recall reading on TLS some (or maybe all) schools require you notify the school of your intent to transfer.

1. Yes. The applications aren't open yet. You have to have grades from two semesters to apply to every t6 school but Chicago. Chicago has ED but it is binding so if you apply and get accepted, you have to transfer to Chicago.

2. Yes. It's the same. I would recommend having law professors write your LORs since they can speak to your abilities in law school.(or at least one of the LORs) But I don't know how much of a difference it makes. I'd still have your LORs updated either ways.

3. Yes. For the majority of applications, you'll need to get a letter of good standing signed by your law school.(and any other school you attended) That's in addition to getting all the transcripts sent.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure I can get two good LORs from law profs, so i'll just do that rather than have an undergrad prof update their letter and resubmit.

I should clarify that if you apply to Chicago, you aren't forced to transfer to Chicago. You can stay at your old school. But you can't transfer anywhere else.(or aren't supposed to at least)

That's good to know, but how sure are you? Their webpage says "Early Decision acceptances are binding on the applicant, which means that, if admitted, you must commit to matriculating at the Law School." Seems to be saying accepted = must attend. Is it just tough talk they can't really enforce?

Not 100% sure. But I don't see how Chicago could do anything if you choose to stay where you are.
