Transfer chances?

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Mar 03, 2016 1:03 am

Current School's Rank: 50-60
1st Semester Grades: 3.46, top 15-20%
Other: Top grade in one class, but I had one bad class (without the bad class I would be in top 5%).

Chances to transfer to T14?
Chances to transfer to CCN?
Chances to transfer to HYS?

Want to transfer for prestige, clerkships, academia, or Big Law.

0% chance at HYS. Negligible chance at CC. Low chance at N. Semi-low chance at landing a lower t14 (middling chance at GULC). Best recommendation is for you to raise your grades in the second semester. Get in the top 10% and you'll have a very realistic shot at lower t14s and a higher than low chance at one of CCN.

Gotcha, and thank you for the feedback. You think if I moved up to the top 5% that would change things substantially? Also, I assume you have transferred or have experience with the process?

If you move within the top 5%, your chances will greatly improve from where they are now, which is practically 0% at all but GULC, and still very low there. I'd suggest reading Arrow's transfer advice that is stickied, its pretty much spot on, in my opinion. If you are top 5%, you have a good chance of at least one of CCN, and a lot of the others lower down. HYS is going to likely be a wasted application fee still.

Yes, it would. If you move up to top 5%, you'll have a realistic shot at at least one of CCN and all of the transfer-friendly lower t14s.

I experienced the process. Applied to HYS and Columbia with top 1% grades from a school in the 40s. Didn't get in any. Although, I think I would have gotten in Columbia if I had put more work into my application (take it seriously, I do think it matters...especially your PS). But I wasn't really sold on transferring to a school that was outside of HYS.

I had similar stats to you and transferred a couple years ago 3-4 years. Top 50-60 school - just shy of top 10% (1-2 people shy of top 10%)

I applied to all lower t14 and ucla usc vandy texas, didn't get a single bitE.I think you need to be inside of the top 10% to be safe. You will be a lock at schools like washu nd gw bu/bc...

With that said I think the classes are a lot bigger now so I think they may be a little more lenient .

I would definately work a lot harder this semester. I was actually ranked just inside the top 1/3 after first semester (b- in torts). I killed it second semester and got nearly all a's.

You aren't in a terrible position but u gotta perform second semester and you can't afford to make any mistakes!

believe it or not there is a huge difference from transferring to a t14 school or even ucla usc vs nd gw bc...

Message me if you have any questions.

T14: Good shot at GULC, NU, UM, okay shot at the others (Cornell sucks for transfers don't go there)
CCN: No
HYS: No

No chance at HYS, and essentially no chance at CCN (I was at a T20, and the general cutoff for transfers getting into CCN was around top 10%, and only people within the top 5% were getting into H). As for the lower T14 schools like Mich, NU, GULC, you have a pretty decent shot.
