Grades back- ranked near top of class. Should I transfer? Forum

Currently at school that falls in the range of somewhere between 30-50. Going into exams, I kept my expectations reasonable; I thought I would be happy being in the top 25%. Turns out, I did much better than expected. I'm ranked 10th in my class, putting me in the top 5%. I never thought I would be interested in transferring, but I'm now trying to figure out all of my options moving forward. Other info that might be helpful- strong ties in the state where my school is now; no real connections elsewhere (with the exception of one strong tie in NYC). No scholarship at my current school, but the tuition is reasonable. Advice? Go!

What is the tuition? It often makes sense to stay put as top 5% if you have a full ride or something close to that, but with no scholarship you should at least apply and see what happens because you will have a good amount of debt either way.

Is there a sufficient number of employers that you would want to work for that come to OCI or otherwise hire from someone at your school and with your rank, such that you would feel confident that you have a good chance of getting a job?

Also, the number of schools you can apply to now is limited. You will still need another semester of grades for the others.

The answer is probably yes. You should try ED at GULC or UC(?) at the very least to try and leverage a scholarship out of your current school. With your numbers you could go higher than GULC for sure.

Even if you don't want to transfer you should see if you can get some $$$ out of your current school by waving a t14 offer in their face.

I think the answer falls on 1. where you want to work; 2. can you afford full tuition; 3. are you willing to give up your rank, friends, and comfort with your current school for a new one.
