Re: Transfer from UC Hastings to T14
I would imagine that straight As put you well into the top 10%. If you keep it up second semester, you will have a great chance at transferring to plenty of schools in the T14. Keep in mind, though, that someone with straight-As at Hastings will have no problem landing a big law job in the Bay Area. So if you have a scholarship at Hastings, and if your goal is to practice in the Bay Area, I'd strongly consider not transferring even if you get into T14 schools.

Agreed w/rpupkin. Just as a fyi, there were like 19 from Hastings that transferred to Boalt this year. So it's definitely doable if you maintain your grades.

You would still "have" your 1L grades--law firms would see your 1L transcript.alexkshim wrote:I do want to do BigLaw, but I am unsure if I want to do it in the Bay Area. If I transferred to another T14, would it be significantly more difficult to land a BigLaw job considering that I would no longer have my 1L grades?
But, yes, it can be harder to land a big law job as a transfer, particularly if you're changing markets/regions.
Is Hastings giving you any money?

Re: Transfer from UC Hastings to T14
Is that per year? If so, $30k isn't a small chunk of change. From my understanding, there are quite a few large firms that attend Hasting's OCI and they are going to recruit for their NY offices just as they would their Bay Area offices. You won't really know where you stand until the end of second semester when you have those grades, so for now I would just focus on keeping up your grades and not trying to prematurely focus on transferring.alexkshim wrote:Not really. I got a $10K scholarship which is what I think they give everyone, but I hear they throw more money at you if you do well during your first year. As far as working in other markets go, I would really only want to work in the Bay Area or New York.

Re: Transfer from UC Hastings to T14
Ha! Good job with those grades!!! You killed it.
I am also wondering if is a good idea to apply to transfer. 1L at UC-H. I do not think is worth it to transfer to Berkeley and I have 3.78 GPA so I do not even know what my chances are or how I'll do next semester. I have a pretty decent scholarship of around $80K total but would want to ask for more $. I've heard is doable with my GPA.
I am set in practicing in the Bay Area and do not care if I get Big Law or not.
What do you gives think?

See how you do next semester. If you stay within the top 10%, it may be worth it to stay if you can get more $$ and don't care about landing Big Law.mac35352 wrote:Ha! Good job with those grades!!! You killed it.
