Current 1L at CCN here. In general, what grades should I be aiming for to have a decent shot at transferring to Stanford?
I want to transfer because
1. I want to practice in CA
2. Substantial personal reasons (family, SO, etc).
Arrow's guide said top 10% for T-20's but it seems like it was written in 2009. I was also wondering if being within the T14 made any difference?

Aiming for particular grades is such a ridiculous notion. Just aim to do your best and see where the cards fall come first semester grades. Once you have those grades, come back and discuss.

Doubt you'll get more than a couple anecdotes here. Only 8 people transferred from CCN to HYS last year, with just 3 going to SLS (1 Chicago, 2 CLS). If you're serious about this, I'd get in touch with SLS.

I think an NYU student also went to SLS, IIRC: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 7&t=251407
I agree with previous posters: just do your best and hope for the best. Law school success is very hard to predict. If you knew that someone had gotten into SLS from CCN with only say, top 20%, would that stop you from trying to be the best you can? Would it even give you peace of mind? Every case is different. It happens, people do get in, and knowing the data can be helpful for knowing whether or not it's reasonable to apply with your grades being what they are. On the other hand, some people whose numbers indicate they should get in sometimes don't get in. All you can do it put forth the best application possible...which starts with top 1L grades.
If you're determined to transfer to SLS, keep it in the back of your mind as a goal, but try not to think about it. It will only make the pressure of 1L that much worse. Trust me, my first thought after finishing my 1L crim pro exam was "ugh, oh well, good-bye T14 dreams." Which wasn't exactly a motivating/comforting thought for the rest of my exams. (Thankfully I was wrong, about both my performance and my prospects, but...you get the idea. It's unnecessary pressure).
For now, stay on top of your work, try to start gathering outlines from former students of your same profs, and start trying to understand what your profs are each looking for. That's the key to law school success: study how you best study, and identify what your professors are looking for. Then give it to them!
(FYI, mods are probably going to lock this thread soon because they're not big fans of 1Ls pre-grades posting in the Transfer forum).

Re: CCN to Stanford Transfer GPA requirement.
Please read the rules stickied at the top of the transfers forum, http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 7#p4902242, which explain why 1Ls are not allowed to ask about transfer chances in this forum until they have grades. Thanks.
