WCL Exodus
There's like a hundred of us transferring out (and more who thought about it). Where are we all going? What were your stats?

in at GW; WL at GULC; Ding at Penn and UVA; No decision from Cornell, NW, Duke.
Wish I would've applied to NYU and Mich. As is, staying. Not giving up half scholly for GW.

That seems smart, especially if you're on a journal or moot/mock.TTtop13pct wrote:in at GW; WL at GULC; Ding at Penn and UVA; No decision from Cornell, NW, Duke.

Haha I think "were" is correct at this point, but ya I just finished 1L there.TTtop13pct wrote:thanks. Are/were you a wcl student?dfg wrote:That seems smart, especially if you're on a journal or moot/mock.TTtop13pct wrote: As is, staying. Not giving up half scholly for GW.

Re: WCL Exodus (Transfers Out)
Do you suspect that the percentage who opt to transfer out will exceed that of last year?

Re: WCL Exodus (Transfers Out)
Yeah, WCL also makes you pay back your scholly if you transfer to another DC school. Worth it for GULC, not for GW imo.TTtop13pct wrote:in at GW; WL at GULC; Ding at Penn and UVA; No decision from Cornell, NW, Duke.

This is pure speculation, but I would guess no. This transfer cycle has seemed pretty competitive. Not to mention the fact that last year WCL had just dropped to T2 in the rankings, so the mass exodus might have been a result of panic.haus wrote:Do you suspect that the percentage who opt to transfer out will exceed that of last year?

lol if I end up transferring and they ask for the 24k back from 1L year I will literally laugh out loud and tell them to sue me. What absolute stellar press that would be for the school.

Okay tough guy, but you signed a contract upon enrolling (one that you probably didn't read) and would lose that 24K anyway.TTtop13pct wrote:stugotz wrote:

Re: WCL Exodus (Transfers Out)
Ya, it's really tough to say. I haven't heard about it a ton, but then we may find out that another ~50 kids moved to GW and ~15 to GULC and the "predatory" practices continued. I'll be fascinated to see the 509s that come out next year for WCL, GW, and GULC.stugotz wrote:This is pure speculation, but I would guess no. This transfer cycle has seemed pretty competitive. Wait, how would he lose the money anyway if he hasn't paid it yet? I'm confused.stugotz wrote:Okay tough guy, but you signed a contract upon enrolling (one that you probably didn't read) and would lose that 24K anyway.TTtop13pct wrote:stugotz wrote:

Re: WCL Exodus (Transfers Out)
After I was admitted I got an e-mail from the dean offering the money, saying I should reply to accept the award. There was no small print or attachment to the e-mail. I replied "I gratefully accept the award, thank you" and the tuition owed was reduced by that amount on my student account. I've never given an ink signature to WCL. Can't rememeber what click wrap there was but hopefully we will see what comes of itstugotz wrote:

I've heard that requirement only applied to need-based money, not merit. I got merit $ and didn't see a thing about repaying for transferring within DC.

Re: WCL Exodus (Transfers Out)
That might be it then. In my case, after they heard I was considering transferring they called me into the financial aid office to discuss the scholarship I was giving up. When they saw I wasn't applying to a DC school they told me I wouldn't have to pay back the money I got for 1L.Anonymous User wrote:I've heard that requirement only applied to need-based money, not merit. Hmmm no such meeting for me. I guess I'm fine (not transferring within DC anyway).stugotz wrote:That might be it then. if my rank drops because GW took so many kids with a lower GPA than me, I'm gonna be pretty unhappy

Smart, and yet I'm sure a ton of WCL kids are going to make exactly that decision, whether from repaying need money or losing merit money.TTtop13pct wrote:Wouldliketotransfer2 wrote:TTtop13pct wrote:in at GW; WL at GULC; Ding at Penn and UVA; No decision from Cornell, NW, Duke.

More kids in HYS than GULC or GW? Maybe these forums are self-selecting....though it's probably just trolls

Definitely trolls. Two WCL kids went to HLS last year, 0 to YLS or SLS.Anonymous User wrote:More kids in HYS than GULC or GW? Maybe these forums are self-selecting....though it's probably just trolls
