Re: 3rd in class at mercer, transfer?
If it were me, I'd apply. But I don't know how much of a hit the application fees are. You can always make your decision later but you can't go back and apply to those schools in the future if you change your mind. Although, I think Yale is probably a bit out of your reach. It's also probably a bit out of my reach and I applied anyways so I'm going to try to avoid being a hypocrite here.

I would apply to GULC. You have a good shot.
Good job Tom C. Hope to see you at UGA.

Realistically, don't think you're getting biglaw coming out of Mercer...apply elsewhere.

Blanket the T14. You will land one.
I wouldn't recommend UGA. I don't think you'd be adding enough value with that move to justify giving up your class rank. I'd rather be 3rd in my class at Mercer than roll the dice again at UGA.
Start mass mailing firms too. You will probably land one.
Nice job with the GPA. Good luck.

Re: 3rd in class at mercer, transfer?
Actually every year a decent amount of the top 10 (people not percent) get biglaw jobs in ATL. Every year a couple of Mercer grads get K&S jobs, a couple more get Troutman Sanders, etc especially with big firms that have Mercer alumn as partners. So for someone in my position, a biglaw job is absolutely realistic coming out of Mercer. Obviously I'll be more limited, but there's a misconception out there that no one at Mercer Law can get big firm ATL jobs...goldgirl786 wrote:Realistically, don't think you're getting biglaw coming out of Mercer...apply elsewhere.

Transfer deadlines ? Apply to Duke. Also, Georgia is definitely worthwhile since you want Atlanta biglaw & in-state tuition is dirt cheap. Mercer with a 50% scholarship probably equals UGa.'s resident tuition cost.

Re: 3rd in class at mercer, transfer?
Mercer has a stigma, even in Georgia. Of course, now that it's "just a little bit racist"....
If you wanted to practice in Georgia, but not in Atlanta, then Mercer would suffice, but for Atlanta & especially for Atlanta biglaw, I'd recommend transferring to Georgia.
Law review is a big sacrifice, however. Apply to Duke. Duke & Virginia are powerful names in the Atlanta legal community.
Mercer should have offered you a full scholarship. What are number one & #2 in your class doing regarding staying or transferring. Talk with them.
