Transfer from a T3 school to GULC after EIW deadline?
Hey all,
So I'm currently at a T3 school in DC. I am on the law review, I am within the top 15%, I have 6 OCI's here and I just got offered admissions at GULC. I'm also interested in pursuing international law. I just got sent a letter from GULC giving me a list of a few government firms and small/medium firms I could still interview with. Does GULC still offer better job prospects?
It is also worth mentioning that I won't graduate with any debt.
Any advice is appreciated.

6 OCI's is really nothing. I would mass-mail them, transfer to GULC, and continue to mass-mail other firms + participate in the (small) September Interview Program + Gov't Interview Program at GULC. GULC = #3 International focus in the nation btw.
Idk if its worth it for you. Also, you may be eligible for need-based aid at GULC, which, in my case, ended up being more of a scholarship than my T4 was offering.
Goodluck in making your decision

I'd do it. Not sure if theres any chance of getting a legal job graduating from a T3, even at top 15%+LR, but you will have a stronger chance at GULC.

this is a really strong response and entirely nonsensical without more specific informationJchance wrote:I'd do it. Not sure if theres any chance of getting a legal job graduating from a T3, even at top 15%+LR, but you will have a stronger chance at GULC.
with that said, this is a tough call and if i were you, i think i would pack my bags and head to GULC

Thank you all for your comments.
The school I currently attend is small. I have spent a year developing good relationships with peers and professors. I'm in a securities law program that has a pretty good track record with employment too. My concern is that I will lose the contacts that I have spent cultivating, and the recommendations and references that teachers could be giving me. At Georgetown I get the sense that classes are larger and that things are much more impersonal. Please correct me if I'm wrong. This decision is torturing me.

I'd stay. If you don't get EIW, there's no real point in transferring, as everyone is going to look at you as 15% T3, not median GULC or whatever. The main reason to transfer is access to more employers, which you don't get. No debt versus sticker? are you kidding me?

Well I wouldn't have debt no matter where I graduate. Also, it may help to clarify that I consider T3 to be a particular school that is ranked between 100-110

I'll get to sit at least 4 of them (because I have already sat three, and one is a resume collect). I'm probably going to submit a deposit any day now.

But I am still having a hard time with the decision. I'm leaving a lot of personal relationships with professors and such behind.
Also, it's not udc

There is no practice area called "International Law". What specifically are you thinking: international arbitration? International trade? Cross-border M&A? International Litigation? Sanctions compliance? Public interest/international human rights/international crim.? FCPA/Anti-corruption?
If Georgetown is enticing you with its elusive connections to the mystical field of "international law", don't buy it.
The OCI/EIW employment options at either school are a wash. If I were you, I would stay and really hussle to land a job out of your securities law program.
Congratulations on graduating debt free.

I really appreciate your saying this. I have learned a lot in the last few days. But yes, I know that there is no practice area called "International Law". You sound very informed on this. Thank you.Phil Brooks wrote:There is no practice area called "International Law". What specifically are you thinking: international arbitration? International trade? Cross-border M&A? Just an update. I went ahead and transferred to GULC, but so far the results have not been encouraging. I'm not on any journals. I did the september interview program, applied for 15 firms, and was rejected immediately by 14 firms.

while there is no such thing as international law, there are international transactions, and to be involved in that area requires prestige. Getting involved from a T3 is virtually impossible.
Transferring is a no-brainer. (Of course, probably not much chance if only median at GULC, but still better odds than T3).
