transferring to GULC but missed the EIW deadline, worth it?
Transferring to GULC from a top 20 non-T14 law school, but be told by the admission already missed the EIW deadline.
I didn't make law review/journal in my current school, I may be able to do OCI at my current school(if I can get the transferring deposit postponed), however, there are not many big firms coming.
I do have a full ride in my school, so transfer would cost me at least $100,000 in debt.
I have a advanced technical background and am very much want to work for a big law in DC/NY?CA
Anyone can give me any suggestion regarding my current situations? The GULC deposit deadline is next Monday.
Thanks.

Way to expensive to transfer for minimal benefit.

OP here. What if my parent would pay for my tuition so I don't need to take loan?Chrstgtr wrote:Way to expensive to transfer for minimal benefit.
To be honest, money is not my top concern now, I am just worried I may not be able to get a big firm job from GULC since I already missed the deadline.

From T20 to G after EIW deadline? I mean, sure, it depends on the T20 to some extent, but I'm not sure it's worth it before the deadline.
Stay. And get those massmails out the door yesterday.

Hey OP, sorry to jump on your thread but I have a very similar concern.
Was also accepted to GULC after the EIW deadline, but I already withdrew from my previous school. I was intending on transferring to UCLA, already did their bid interviews, got a decent amount of interviews. Should I take GULC over UCLA? No preference on where I want to work. Coin toss between NY/CA big law.

I'd take UCLA over GULC in your case.derfs wrote:Hey OP, sorry to jump on your thread but I have a very similar concern.

Unless you're an international student in need of big law for immigration purposes, I would say fuck no don't transfer. And even if your int, then the benefit (chances of getting big law) are marginal. Do not waste $100,000 of you, or your parents, money for a small chance of getting big law. unless you have some exceptional circumstance, you should definitely not transfer.

Unless your parents are worth at 8 figures I do not see how transferring would be credited.heavoldgotjuice wrote:Unless you're an international student in need of big law for immigration purposes, I would say fuck no don't transfer. Being accepted at a higher ranked school doesn't change the underlying qualifications that you have. No matter where you decide to attend next year you will still have the exact same experience for firms to base their hiring decisions off of and its not like you are at a TTTT school that is completely off firms' radar.Anonymous User wrote:OP here... I got several big firm interviews through the Loyola patent program. Half of those firms are for their DC office. I am not sure i am right about this. The interviews are later this week, I am kinda thinking if I told my interviewers I got accepted by a higher ranked school , which also in their market, could increase the chance of my callbacks.
Please correct me if you think I am wrong or just being ridiculous, I am very confused now.
Thanks a lot!

I'd personally stick with UCLA, only because you have a good number of interviews lined up and don't have a location preference. It seems like choosing GULC this late in the game over UCLA (when you have those interviews already set up) wouldn't make any sense.derfs wrote:Hey OP, sorry to jump on your thread but I have a very similar concern.

It seems like you're in a much better position at your current school (and since it's a T20, the jump in prestige isn't that big). You have a full ride and OCI at your current school, neither of which you will get at Georgetown. I'd stick to your current school.Anonymous User wrote:Transferring to GULC from a top 20 non-T14 law school, but be told by the admission already missed the EIW deadline.

I also think you should stay...particularly so if you are in the T20 that I am thinking of.

Anyway I can give you my interviews if I get any? Lol... I have no desire to work for a firm but I did sign up for EIW.
As per the rest of your post-- I don't think it's worth a transfer if you have a full scholarship and will only go up in rank by a max of 7 ranks. But if you want to be in the heart of politics DC it is (otherwise it is expensive here xD). Don't waste your parents' money unless you really want to move here. EIW is no big deal. You can find a job in other ways.

Re: transferring to GULC but missed the EIW deadline, worth it?
I agree with this. If it were a T6 or a T10, it would be a different matter but T20 -> GULC doesn't seem like it's worth it, especially if you're already in such a great position (full scholarship!) at your current school. Paying stick at GULC, especially after EIW, seems like a waste.beebee19 wrote:Anyway I can give you my interviews if I get any? Lol... I have no desire to work for a firm but I did sign up for EIW.

No way! The whole point of moving up is for EIW, which is why so few people transfer to Cornell for instance. If you are at a top 20 and mass mailing there isn't a big difference between your school and GULC.

I agree w/general consensus - not worth it. You have a full ride, and going up a few ranks isn't worth $100k+ in debt.

I'm actually in the same boat. I currently attend a school ranked just below 100. I am on the law review, ranked within the 1op 15% at my current school. I have 5 OCI's coming up at my current school. I just got off the wait list and my head is spinning with my options. Another thing to consider is that I really would like to get into international commercial law.

OP here updates:
I transferred to GULC despite all the above posts. Didn't make to the EIW bidding, didn't make to the LR write-on, got some screeners from the open sign-ups.
Results: Negotiated a $$$ deal with GULC and got half my tuition off AND got a V20 offer.

Why didn't you just stay at your first school, save a bunch of money, and just cop the same V20 offer?Anonymous User wrote:OP here updates:

I know a number of people at UT outside of the top 10% and without law review who got offers at V5s and V10s. Different school but I think it could be possible.runinthefront wrote:Does anyone outside of the top 10% at WUSTL or Emory get V20 BigLaw offers without Law Review? That could have factored into it, but this is all speculation unless OP decides to shed more light on the surrounding circumstances of her transfer.
Anyway, even though I probably would've stayed, congratulations!
Did he say he wouldn't have been on law review at his T20? I missed that part. Saw that he said he missed LR at GULC but not at his T20.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
