Rutgers-Newark or Cardozo?
I transferred up from a t4 in Massachusetts, mainly because I want to practice in either the NYC or NJ areas. Which is better in terms of employment prospects, or does it really not make a difference?

Sorry, but you're probably pretty fucked either way. What kind of law do you want to practice? Have you considered dropping out? Or at the very least negotiating a full ride from your T4?Anonymous User wrote:I transferred up from a t4 in Massachusetts, mainly because I want to practice in either the NYC or NJ areas. If you're hellbent on paying sticker to go to a TTT then I would take Cardozo over Rutgers.

Would you be able to pay in-state tuition at Rutgers?

Re: Rutgers-Newark or Cardozo?
yes, I can get in-state tuition. I know its hard for people on here to grasp that not everyone wants biglaw nor is becoming a lawyer to be rich, but I'm actually interested in either matrimonial law or criminal law/prosecution. I've worked in both fields and think I'd be content doing either. So I guess it really just comes down to Rutgers since its cheaper, but I wanted to hear if anyone had any other thoughts just based on reputation etc

Rutgers of course.
It's the state flagship university, has a solid reputation, part of the Big 10.
Has tons of other professional schools such as medicine, dental, pharmacy, business, etc.
People respect Rutgers Law. Cardozo not so much.
Their employment numbers are about the same, except Rutgers grants in state tuition of 25k/yr upon signing a 12 mo. housing lease, so it's half the cost of Cardozo, not to mention you aren't paying astronomical rent in NYC.

Cardozo does place slightly better in BigLaw/FedClerk, but at a significant premium. If that isn't your goal (which is what it sounds like), then Rutgers makes more sense as long as you're prepared to stay in NJ after bar. Placement in NY outside of OCI process can be difficult, though not impossible. That being said, be prepared to hustle for whatever you get no matter which school you choose. Your options are going to be better than TTTT, but it's not rainbows and lollipops by any stretch of the imagination.Anonymous User wrote:yes, I can get in-state tuition. I mean, that's a pretty obvious decision by comparison. You made the admirable leap from a virtually market-less TT to a T6. Little bit different than going from a shithole diploma mill TTTT to a shithole diploma mill TT/TTT.reasonable person wrote:Yessshhhh, I must has dat prestigeee.ymmv wrote:"Dat lay prestige."reasonable person wrote:Rutgers of course.

Prestige has nothing to do with it.
