(1) HLS needs an offer by this Friday, but YLS will not make decisions by next week, and will not expedite. Has anyone been in this position before? Does anyone have advice about what to do if HLS will not extend the deadline to accept/deny their offer by enough time to hear back from YLS?

(2) Is there a significant difference between HLS and YLS for entering legal academia down the road?

(3) I'm currently at a T14 on Law Review. At HLS, not on Law Review. Better to stay at current school w/ LR or go to HLS w/o LR? (no difference in financial aid situation)

Any help or thoughts on any of these Q's would be great!

1) Go to HLS
2) No

This post goes over similar inquiries re: stay or go and people are arguing over HLS vs. staying at t14.

go to HLS and have a party to celebrate. I think individuals who say "stay" have ulterior motives and are hoping you will deny the offer thus freeing up a potential spot for them.

I really disagree with this and I think it comes down to financial aid, and depends on which T14. Going to Harvard as an entering 2L without 1L connections, law review, ect will hurt your chances at a clerkship and the academia dream vis a vis being on LR at your current school.

Yale sends a vastly higher portion of it's class into CoA clerkships, and produces several times more academics per capita, than Harvard. They are not equivalent in this regard. Unless you have $0 at your current school, I would stick it out and only transfer for Y.

This is ridiculous. This advise is not coming from transfer applicants.

Self selection is not explanatory of the distinction in clerkship and academia.

However, if you are loaning sticker at your current school, you might even get aid at H. If you're at DCNG I think transferring to Harvard makes sense. All things considered, law review there might not be as substantial a credential as going to H, although you may want to poll those who have been through the CoA application process. Understand that academia is a longshot no matter what; it might not even be worth making decisions based on it.

Either way, congrats on doing well and your transfer

bottom t-14

dcng = duke cornell northwestern gulc

edit:

tls likes to group things

so YSH = yale stanford harvard
ccn = uChi columbia NYU
MVPB = mich uva penn berk
dcng

then t6 = yshccn
and t10 is the t6 + mvpb.

Thanks! So my grouping is MVPB. Not sure if that changes people's opinions.

Meh. Not really. I wouldn't transfer from top 10% penn w/ LR, but at sticker it's a valid choice either way.

Maybe try using the transfer acceptance as leverage for a scholarship at your current school. They won't want to lose a top student, and clearly you've proven you're worth it.
