T60- Good idea to stay?

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Jun 29, 2014 12:20 pm

Deadlines are coming up so I need some help. I am in at all of the following schools, but Gtown. :)

Rank: top 50% (fell a bit from 1st semester), current debt: 20k undergrad
Goal: firm job, move to large city

Current school- T60 (rising), regionally strong, possible LR, total debt 60k, making connections

Emory- total debt 85k

WashU- total debt 60k, middle of nowhere

GULC- total debt 100k, city, on waitlist so not in yet

GW- total debt 100k, city but compete with gtown

I'm pretty sure Arrow's post encourages transferring, but with my rank (and possibility of LR), I'm wondering if it's better to stay put.

EDIT: My rank dropped and I just missed the cutoffs for top 33%. I was just outside top 25% 1st semester. I applied early to all the schools.

How is your total debt adjustment so slight when compared to transferring?
Are you paying near sticker at your current school?

Lol at your "rising" T60. You don't understand rankings.

OP here.

Paying sticker at current school. Put 'rising' because I'm looking for a silver lining. They've been jumping up, which means they can jump down. Not holding out for GULC much; doubtful I'll get in at this point.

At the very least threaten to transfer so you can get a scholarship.

Also this further corroborates what I've been saying about transfers in recent years. It's stupid easy to transfer now.

OP here.

My rank dropped a lot this semester. I'm in at all those schools except gtown. Those debt numbers are total debt, not including undergrad.

You're ranked in the top 50%? How would you get into any of those schools in the first place? I can't believe it

I am fairly sure that WUSTL, at least, has Early action.

I know a guy at median at a T20 in at Michigan. It happens.
That's crazy... if I were the OP, I would definitely transfer the fuck out in order to redeem myself from median in a better school.

Reset button, but you definitely want to pay attention to which OCIs have heavy lottery vs all pre-select.

I'm just outside the top 33%. I was just outside top 25% when I applied to transfer. I seem to keep missing those GPA cut offs by a few hundredths.

What I'm hearing is, even if I made LR, not worth it to stay?

We don't have a big representation on TLS, so I'll just say east coast. The alumni base seems strong.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

Who do I talk to about more money? How would I approach that?

Also, not in a large city now, but grew up in DC. I'd like to go back.

I would transfer to any of those school, not worth it to stay. I'd take GW > WashU > Emory but depending on ties.

PM me, OP.

Is anyone else surprised by this? Top 50% and into T20? OP- Congrats on the acceptances. Would you mind sharing work experience or etc? For the record- in your situation I would absolutely transfer. Congrats again.

Assuming the DC schools are a decent % lottery, I would go to one of them. GULC ideally. That should also help a bit if you don't get a large firm, helping you find something else.

Probably start with whoever gave you the dean's cert. Some schools don't negotiate though.
That's great advice, thanks. I heard Atlanta was a tough market to crack and WashU worried me for a lot of reasons. I'm also pretty sure my current school won't negotiate.

I'm concerned about GW since they will be competing with GULC and those from other top schools coming to DC. And of course, the increase in debt. It'd be another 30-40k.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
