I am slightly above median at DePaul. I would like to transfer to UIUC, but I don't know if I have any chance at all. I was accepted into UIUC when initially applying to law schools, so hopefully that may give me a boost? The indication, from what I've read, is not likely. Any thoughts?
And no, not very many compelling reasons that I could say. Just better career opportunities.

Re: Transfer to UIUC realistic?
This doesn't make much sense. You'll be paying sticker at UIUC, and you're not going to get much better career opportunities out of it. Median at DePaul means you're going to strike out at OCI for all large firms at UIUC (they are competitive at UIUC, so they definitely are not going to take someone who was median at DePaul). The only way I could see it being beneficial is if you killed it at UIUC and somehow landed a fed clerkship out of that, but that's unlikely (because judges will still look at your 1L grades at DePaul). Also your odds of getting accepted at UIUC aren't very good. The fact that you got into UIUC initially isn't going to help you for transfer admissions. Transfer admissions are based on your 1L grades. Your UGPA + LSAT are only indicators of your law school performance, so when you have actual grades from law school, it doesn't make much sense to use those numbers.abelay3 wrote:I am slightly above median at DePaul. Your best chance at a legal job would be to stay put at DePaul and network. Your school is right in Chicago, so that is incredibly beneficial for networking (being in Champaign will make networking much more difficult).
Best of luck.
