Still waiting on a couple grades, but if they remain steady, top 10% at CCN.
To be honest, I'm not really interested in leaving my current school for stanford or yale for any career/academic reasons, and might not at all - although my SO's circumstances could militate a west coast move in the very near future - but my current scholarship only covers between 1/3 and 1/2 tuition, so I'm looking at six figure debt right now. I see this rather cynically as a barter and leverage scenario: the school functionally takes tens of thousands of dollars more than necessary each year from me with a "take it or leave it" attitude, but now I've worked my ass off to even the bargaining power a little bit. And this is not a law school that likes student attrition (very few people leave and I think it's a point of pride).
Anyone have any experience with this transfer -> scholarship increase process? First, I'll need to approach a professor to write a letter. I'm not terrifically close to any of my law school professors, and I don't want to offend anyone I might need as a legitimate reference in the future. Do you just grab someone whose class you got an A in?
Second, any tips on how to frame a transfer app? It would be a tough lie to say I hate my current school given my record of student org activities, ect. And most importantly, third, were I blessed enough to gain admission to one of YS in July, how do you go about leveraging it into another $10K/year?
Thanks TLS. (Also, I appreciate how trashy/presumptuous this thread might appear; I'm just trying to get honest feedback from people who have been through similar experiences. Apologies in advance.)

Re: CCN -> YS for $
You should never say you hate your current school on your transfer app. There are many reasons to transfer up to hys from the others in T14; you can write a convincing essay about clerking, S.O. needing to be on the west coast, practice area or academics aspirations, etc. without having to bash your old school at all. If you do bash, they probably won't take you. Nobody wants someone who speaks ill of former associations.
