Value of Transferring From UH to UT in the Long Run?

Post by Anonymous User » Fri May 16, 2014 3:07 pm

How much of a difference do yall think a UT degree makes in TX further down one's career? E.g. when an associate is up for partner, making a move to another law firm/corporation?

Trying to figure out the long term value of a UT degree bc I already have biglaw lined up from UH. Not all that concerned about the $ difference.

If this is the case, do u always want to look back and ask "what if"? Just transfer and never look back.

Yup, I am a 1L. Who said its impossible to get biglaw the summer of your 1L year? Yes I know, but i'd still like to know if anybody has any thoughts on my original question. Thanks though.

This. Best decision I ever made.

That being said, it depends on the market. If it is a regional market that generally takes a lot of local students, it should not matter long term. If it's a major market, prestige helps. Sad fact, but true.

I'd apply and see what happens. Better to have the choice to make than no choice at all. And congrats on a 1L SA gig, that's great!

If you want to practice in Houston, then don't transfer.

If you want to practice in Dallas, SA, Austin, or outside of Texas, then transfer.

Particularly, if you're summering at BigLaw right now and would consider staying you really have nothing to gain. The firm's name means a lot more for exit opp's than law school.
