WUSTL --》East Coast T14
Top 20%, full scholarship, not from MO and no ties to the Midwest in general.
Will graduate with no debt, don't necessarily need BigLaw but would do it if it meant more options later in my career.
If given the chance to go to Penn or Duke, does it make sense to? And what about Columbia our NYU?

Tbh top 25% from WUSTL isn't competitive for CCNP. I think Duke might be possible but even that will be an uphill battle. Would you be open to GULC or NU? Or Michigan?
That said, there's no reason your rank can't go up after spring finals. So those schools could be within striking distance depending on how much you jump

OP here; Sitting top 20%, maybe a little above.
Having a hard time determining if it will be worth it (aka $100k at least) to transfer out of here if I can get in. Any opinions?

I think the big thing is that you're at a regional school and you have no ties to that region. Presumably you don't want to work in the midwest (except maybe Chicago)?
Transferring would be a huge risk but I think it might be worth it if you really want to work outside of the midwest. 100k isn't a terrible amount of debt (you could pay that off in 10 years even if you ended up in the lower salary mode of ~40-50k) though having to give up a full scholarship certainly makes it less palatable. I think you really have to balance how much you would prefer to work outside the midwest and how much you want biglaw versus the risk that you may strike out of biglaw and have 100k debt hanging over your head for the decade after you graduate. I don't think it's a clear cut choice either way (assuming you get a T14 acceptance) and I don't think anybody can answer whether it's worth it except you.

Depends on where you want to work / what your rank looks like after spring grades come in. Emphasis on the former though. Very difficult to say whether you should consider East Coast schools without knowing whether you want to actually work there. Also hard to say whether you should keep the full ride without knowing if you'd be okay working in the Midwest or Chicago.

I don't want to be in the midwest, although Chicago would be alright. I've been on the east coast my whole life, and would be fine working anywhere from Boston on down to Atlanta.sd5289 wrote:Depends on where you want to work / what your rank looks like after spring grades come in. Grades are stable, have just one left to get back - could get bumped up a tiny bit or (more likely) pushed down a little bit.
Where would you suggest applying? HY are obviously out, and I'd guess Columbia and NYU are real long-shots.

So you're for sure top 20% (whether you're bumped up or down with this last grade pending)?

I would also apply to every east coast T14 from CLS down, you have nothing to lose and there are only so many T14's on the east coast. If you're open to non-east coast schools then def apply to Northwestern and Michigan too
