Did I get a fair ranking?
I was in the top 20% of my 1L class at a diploma mill. My goal transfer school received two rankings. One from my 1L class, and then one that ranked me with all students 30-60 hours (including part-time) at 38%. The goal transfer school informed me this was unusual and they would have to check on it. Later, they informed me their policy required them to use the lower rank which put me outside the cut-off (Above 33%).
I feel like I should have been ranked just against my 1L class and not all the 2L students who got the benefit of the more forgiving curve to boost their GPA. I got into another school, so I'm not complaining. I just always thought it was odd. Is this a common tactic to discourage transfers?

1) Why did you attend a diploma mill?
2) That sucks, but what do you want from us? Confirmation? Nothing is going to change.
3) Why is this being brought up in April? Were you ED/EA? Timing is fishy.
4) If this is real and you are pissed, drop out and send it to ATL. Otherwise, deal with it and try to get employment.

That really sucks. I don't understand the point of the part time ranking.

Re: Did I get a fair ranking?
Most schools rank you against the PT students of the same anticipated graduation. The one I'm familiar with doesn't rank PT until the end of their 4th semester so that they and the 1Ls all have the full 1L courseload under their belts, but there are multiple ways it could be done.
Of course, it seems like it would be easier to get a higher rank in a school's PT program than in the FT, but then you have to attend school for 4 years and deal with any PT stigma that may attach.
ETA: I can't really comment on the fairness of your situation because I'm not sure I understand it. Why did they rank you with the 30-60 hour students? I assume you don't have that much after one semester.
ETA2: ATL knows about PT students being ranked along side FT students. As I said, it's common.

The fact that they have the part time ranking is fine. What's shitty is that the transfer school gave that ranking more weight than the 1L class ranking.

Re: Did I get a fair ranking?
OP was ranked on the same curve with 2L students who had under 60 credits which hurt him since their curve had become tougher and they were put on the same 4.0 scale.
OP what school did you transfer from (T4?) and what school did you transfer too?

These tactics are commonplace in TTTT institutions. I am sorry.
