Transfer from PT at GULC to Stanford Forum

Hello.
I apologize if this has been specifically covered in an existing place; it wouldn't surprise me. GULC says that in it's PT program, you cover 20 hours in the first year, and that you finish the typical first-year curriculum in the second year. This means that you would transfer after your second year to (for example) Stanford, correct?

One of the main issues (and there are several) that you're going to encounter is that schools will limit the amount of transfer credit you can bring with you, generally at 32 hours (you'll have to do the math for Stanford's credits) give or take. Thus you're (1) wasting a semester at GULC, (2) taking a semester off from GULC and hoping that doesn't hurt you applying to Stanford (not to mention hoping it wasn't in vain), or (3) seeking special dispensation to transfer at Christmas, which you're unlikely to get.

Stanford allows generally 39 quarter credits to transfer (30 hours) but in "extraordinary" cases, up to 45 (34.6 hours), so that's 6-10 hours of work that you're losing in order to transfer.

Thank you. So time and effort for those classes lost plus $20-30k in tuition. But, it may show my commitment and desire to be at the latter school, that knowing that, I went ahead and got good grades and transferred anyway.

I think you were implying the answer to my main question is "yes," but want to make sure; that I would not have sufficient credits after 1 part-time year at GULC to transfer to Stanford, and it would normally be done during (and in anticipation of finishing) my 2nd year??

Edit: it's more the minimums at Stanford for credits that concern me for logistical/planning purposes, not the maximums

I never said nor implied that. If I gave that impression by providing a partial general answer to a specific thread, I apologize.

I spoke generally about a big issue facing people trying to transfer from PT and then I spoke specifically about Stanford's max transfer credit. I don't know if Stanford would ever take a PT transfer into their (obviously) FT program. That said, you are generally correct that a FT program is going to require that you complete a first-year FT curriculum in order to consider you for transfer.

As for minimum at Stanford, see the page linked above: "Applicants must have completed one full year of law study." I guarantee you they mean a full 1L curriculum, not merely an entire academic year in a PT curriculum. There is nobody who means that.

You're seeking to crack two very tough nuts: (1) Transfer from PT to FT (see the many threads on here about that); (2) Transfer to Stanford. Even coming from Georgetown, your odds are very, very long, approaching impossible.

And I suppose there might be an additional penalty for being PT? so it's more like 1-5%?
