T55-65 top 10% -> T14?
What might be the best transfer prospects for someone among the top of a T55-65 1L?
Emory? Or would any T14s be in play?

I think T14s are in play. I know several people who transferred from Cardozo to Columbia. DO IT. They are a lot more accepting of transfers because 1) you don't get $$$$ and 2) you don't affect their ranking/numbers in any way.

Very helpful

Now, I think I know the answer, but I'll ask anyway. Would letters of recommendation from prominent alum and/or current professors be of any help if they're in the same university, only medicine or business?

Class rank is the most important factor, then quality of your current law school, then LORs from current law profs., then reasons for wanting to transfer. LORs from school trustees or members of the board of regents tend to carry a lot of influence at some law schools however.

What percentage (class position) do you think Columbia/NYU/Berkeley would be looking for from a T60~ 1L transfer?CanadianWolf wrote:Class rank is the most important factor, then quality of your current law school, then LORs from current law profs., then reasons for wanting to transfer. Probably top 10% for Columbia. Not sure about NYU & Berkeley. Nevertheless, if you're top 15%, then it's worth a try. (At one time Berkeley had a written statement that they would consider only those ranked in the top 5%, but others have told me that that was not strictly followed.)

Top 10% gives a chance, but not necessarily a strong chance.

If you are top of your class you should definitely be aiming a bit higher. We have 2 transfers from below 55-65 here at HLS - they were not number 1 in their class.
