Just got a B-. Doomed?
First grade came out yesterday. B-. I expect my other grades to be higher but who knows. My question is, coming from Albany Law School, wanting to transfer to St. Johns, Hofstra, Brooklyn, Dozo, etc. how badly have I hurt my chances? Thank you.

users will be better able to answer your questions concerning transferring once you have all your grades

Re: Just got a B-. Doomed?
A below median at a school with employment statistics like Albany is not a good start. If you wound up around top 25% you'd probably get into Hofstra, but you'd have to ask if this is really worthwhile. The truth is you made the choice to attend a school where you really had to be in around the top 5% of the class to have a realistic shot at paying back the debt. You might want to see how the rest of the grades come back, and might also want to consider cutting you loses unless you have a husband/wife or parents who will be able to pay off the debt for you, and not require you to bring in a high income.

a transfer to these schools wont really be an improvement in your lot. also, you may want to consider dropping out.

Wait till all your grades come out, then evaluate your options. Hopefully your remaining grades are good (in which case transferring will be a viable option). If not, you might want to consider dropping out, depending on your cost of attendance.

why would you go to Albany if you didn't want to stay there for three years?

Re: Just got a B-. Doomed?
Agreed. Albany will give you the same shot as these schools at landing a job. However, if you receive merit based aid and attendance is affordable I would stay. The school employs 50% of the class at graduation so you aren't to far out for being able to get a job. Also, wait until you get your other grades to make a decision. Was this one of your more difficult classes?stillwater wrote:a transfer to these schools wont really be an improvement in your lot. also, you may want to consider dropping out.

What's your COA? I know it's not what you want to hear, but you should strongly consider dropping out. Even with straight A's next semester, you'll still be hovering around a 3.3 cumulative. That GPA would put you in tenuous job-copping territory, and there's no reason to think you'll 4.0 the spring.

Re: Just got a B-. Doomed?
I understand knowing my debt is important in whether or not I should drop out or continue. However, dropping out is not an option. I am happy in law school, I like what i'm learning, and believe I can improve. My brother went to a similarly ranked NY area school, got around the same grades as I did 1L first semester (maybe even a little worse) and is now working with one of the top hip hop lawyers in NYC during his 3L year. Yesterday I was awarded a summer internship with a NY state organization handling complaints for employment discrimination. I know I will have plenty of debt but I will say it's not crippling and I am on a small scholarship which is renewable.
Class ranks are given out at the end of 1L year.

I know 0L should not post here but I could not find anything on google.
What is hip hop law? I am guessing not a real thing but wanted to make sure.

My apologies. Entertainment law. But he represents just about every relevant hip hop artist. Not trying to boast on his behalf, but this is what he wanted to do and seems to be in a pretty decent spot right now.

Re: Just got a B-. Doomed?
If the reason you want to transfer is that you want to be in NYC, then I'm sure NYLS will be happy (and flabbergasted) to receive a transfer application.
But, seriously,

But, seriously,

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
