Transferring to SLS after a leave of absence at HLS?

Post by dadengcrew » Thu Sep 05, 2013 12:39 pm

Hey guys,

Wondering if anybody knows anything about transferring schools after a leave of absence? I finished my 1L year at HLS (grades completely average, as in all P's and a random DS from a crazy prof) and took 4 years leave of absence to serve as active duty military. My circumstances were kind of unusual and HLS was pretty supportive in letting leave and come back, but I'd rather live out west. Any advice?

Generally I would think you'd need better grades to transfer. I think Yale requires at least top 15-20% to transfer, so S probably isn't much more lenient. Is it really such a big deal to wait two years before moving west?

SLS has as strong a Yellow Ribbon program for vets as anyone so I'd understand transferring. SLS is very transparent. I'd suggest getting in touch with Faye Deal, she'll be straight with you.

Yeah, my grades definitely would hold me back. As for waiting 2 years, I promised myself that in the future I'd choose a place before I'd choose an opportunity. Locality means a lot to me. Anybody have any experience with transferring to Berkeley? I'm not pursuing big law or government positions.

does H allow you to spend a year as a visiting student somewhere? if so , then you would only need to "suck it up" being in H for a year and then u can move to S later and still graduate from H, instead fo your other plan which is graduating from B

This is a solid, middle of the road suggestion.

Is this type of policy common? What is the admissions criteria for someone to spend a visiting year at say SLS?
