Which is Better Notre Dame or Emory?

Post by Tigress » Fri Jun 21, 2013 8:31 pm

So I am torn between Notre Dame, Emory, Vanderbilt, and UCLA. The last one is obviously the best of them all but to narrow it down for you I guess, between Notre Dame and Emory, what would you choose?

I am a tad confused about the question here. If the last one is the best, then why are we choosing between the others? Also, why list four schools if your debate is only between two of the mentioned schools? Personally, I would choose Emory because I don't like ND. With that said, I wouldn't take my advice on this situation. Reading your previous posts though, I see you do not really have ties here, and I assume you are trying to return back to your home country afterwards. I think the correct answer will be to choose a school that has the best reputation over there.

Is Emory better reputed than Notre Dame around the world?

I don't like South Bend at all. The atmosphere is very grim and depressing, pubic transportation is poor, and the most interesting thing in it is the university campus. However, if it has a better reputation than Emory then I might suck it up for a better school.

I want to know what the world thinks, not only my own world thinks.

I haven't been offered an admission to some of those schools but they seem interested.

Notre Dame is probably more famous than Emory in the US. I doubt there is much difference between the reputations of the law schools.

South Bend is a shithole, but Notre Dame has a beautiful campus and a wonderful reputation across the board. I wouldn't choose it over UCLA, but I'd definitely choose it over Emory. It has a solidly good reputation that I don't anticipate changing anytime soon, and an incredible alumni network.

UCLA, however, has a solid reputation and alumni network and is in a much better city, so...is the cost difference really that great? I'm assuming that's why you're looking at Notre Dame vs. Emory.

for non-T14's, TCR is pick the one that has the strongest reputation in the region you would like to practice in.

Emory is the school where, at commencement, the Dean told the students they should be thrilled to be unemployed and working for free in Nebraska and that they should shake off their entitlement. Then she laughed that she got hers so they should just suck it up. That alone tells me it is a terrible school with terrible placement and stories like this do nothing to help its reputation.

Notre Dame has a good reputation where football is concerned. In the midwest, or among Catholics, or even among football fans, Notre Dame law would have a decent reputation.

Of these, UCLA. Not sure about other countries, but Asian countries view UCLA as very prestigious.

Also this discussion is a little pointless if you aren't currently accepted. Don't count your eggs before they hatch.

Let's keep things on topic. Comments about Yale are unhelpful.

You're allowed to count the eggs. It's the chickens you shouldn't count.

People are genuinely trying to help you. Maybe it's hard to see that because of the cultural differences in how people express themselves, but no one wants to see you fail. That's why you're being encouraged to reach for the sky. Good luck in your future endeavors.
