Military Veteran Transfer Thread

Post by h2oplyer7 » Fri Jun 21, 2013 2:03 am

Hey all,

I've noticed that there are some awesome transfer stories out there involving military veterans. I wanted to write a thread to give hope to those veterans out there who are thinking about transferring, but might not be in the top of their class. I just read of a Veteran in the top 1/3 of a TTT who transferred into a top 10. I was top 35% at a 40ish school and just got accepted to WUSTL with the Yellow Ribbon. I also understand that there might be a Yale transfer out there. (Rumor)

If there are any other vet stories out there post them!

Thanks all!

I do not have a story...yet. TTTT (Top 10%)....sent in all applications...will update this thread once I start to receive results. I thought it would be a waste of money to apply to T14 schools. Did you submit any apps to T14?

I applied to Notre Dame, UCLA, GW and WUSTL. WUSTL was my top choice. I did not apply to the t14 since I was only in the top 35% of my class. My fiancé wants to go to Northwestern Law so maybe I can live vicariously through her. Haha

Good luck. Please do tell

Best of luck guys. I'm at, guess where, and have thought about transferring, but the wife and I really love Charlottesville and are extremely unlikely to leave for a different school. Feel free to PM me about stuff - I won't put my class rank on here as a lot of my friends know this is my account.

Feel free to ask me some questions about UVA or military/law stuff in general.

I'll guess either Michigan, because it's 9/10, or UVA, because if there really is something to this veteran transfer hypothesis, I'd expect it to have additional weight in states like Virginia.

Either way, I'll echo that guy's sentiment and say that if you have T10 dreams then you should take the chance.

I am sure a lot of people already know about the GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon on here, but I thought I would post some pretty sweet links, since it took me some time to find all of them and I didn't know about this when I applied last year.

Here is a list of Yellow Ribbon schools organized by State. If you are 100% under the GI Bill then you qualify for the Yellow Ribbon. Whatever dollar amount is listed by the school, double it. The government matches the money.

Here is a GI Bill calculator. It is pretty cool. I noticed there are a few problems with it in regards to State schools, but it is pretty awesome nonetheless.

Also, if anyone has any questions about using their GI Bill I can try to answer the question. However, I might not know.
