NYC T2 v. Georgetown
3.6ish at 3.0 median NYC area T2 (we don't rank). Just got into Georgetown EA.
Goals: NJ/NY appellate clerkships (any Art. III clerkship if I can land them), NYC or NJ biglaw, then maybe academia (pipedream I know, but just laugh quietly at me).
estimated debt at T2 by graduation: 40k
estimated debt at Georgetown: 11k (current debt after 1L), plus 2 years of sticker at GULC
Do I stay or go? will apply to T10 schools presumably after this semester. put down a deposit? what should i do?

I would make the deposit. One way or another, you need to get out of that school. Though it'd be nice if you could get into a better school that gtown.

Thank you blink! Any others want to chime in? I'm leaning towards putting downthe deposit ($600) and giving myself more time. Any others want to chime in based on my goals and current debt level? (see above). I could really use more input here.3|ink wrote:I would make the deposit. One way or another, you need to get out of that school. Deposit. I got ~20k in need aid last year before I chose somewhere else. All else fails I'd choose Georgetown, though if you get your GPA up you *may* be able to get NYU/CLS.Jsa725 wrote:i agree w/ 3|ink, deposit if you have the dough...ru2486 wrote:Thank you blink! FWIW: GULC gives need-based aid...

How does one go about applying for need-based aid at GULC?

There should be something on the admitted students page. You use the needaccess app which requires an absurd amount of financial information.echooo23 wrote:How does one go about applying for need-based aid at GULC?

bumping my own thread: no grant need-based aid for Georgetown, so I'm looking at 2 years of sticker at GULC plus 11k from this past year. I want NYC/NJ biglaw. Do I stay or go? no idea on 2nd semester grades yet.

I think if you want to stay in NJ, you should stay put. I don't think GULC is going to get you your goals any better than your current school and you'd have to take on way more debt to do it.
