Top 5% at Chicago T2 -> T14?
Hi, I'm new to the site. Anyone want to give me their opinion on my chances?
Top 5% in class at Kent/Loyola. Only regional ties are to Chicago. Male, work experience in accounting for 3 years.
Assuming I maintain my rank, do I have any chance at HYS? What about NYU, Chicago, Northwestern or Columbia?
Thanks.

Where do you want to work? Do you want to clerk? Do you want big law?

I do want biglaw. No interest in clerking. I'm thinking I want to come back to Chicago eventually.

assuming your 169 and 3.6 gpa, how did you not get into a t-14? You must have had decent options open to you? --- just curious? (did you get a full ride?)
If you want T14 now, maintaining rank is imperative. I would prob ED Chicago (since you want to end up back in chicago) and than run the gamut of schools you want to try your luck in, you'd have pretty good chances of getting in w/ such a nice ranking =)
Best of luck =)

Re: Top 5% at Chicago T2 -> T14?
^ Fair question, and the answer is that I did not apply. I don't have a full ride, but a pretty decent scholarship (about 2/3). At the time, I did not think I wanted big law, clerking or academia and it seemed wiser to take the money from a lower school.
Nice, you think I have a shot at Chicago? i talked with a kid who applied there last year from my school and got rejected. He was top 8% at the time.

You have a shot at both uchi and nu. Can't speak to the rest. The rank puts you into contention...then the other stuff matters. Your classmate likely didn't make it due to considerations other than grades. I transferred from a Chicago t2 to uchi/nu and my classmates had similar stats to you. If I were you I'd consider both nu and uchi. Chicago has a better ranking but in terms of big law they are peers in Chicago (and nu wins on some firms like Kirkland). Keep up the focus and gl.
