"W" affecting transfer?

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Feb 14, 2013 4:43 pm

Basically, I'm a 1L at a T2, and based on last semester's grade about
top 10%. I intend to blanket the T14 besides YHS, assuming I can
repeat this semester. But my issue is that one of my elective classes
this semester has really put me in a tough spot. The class grading is
based on a final, which comprises 50% of your grade, 45% is writing
assignments she assigns throughout the semester, and 5% participation.
The shitty part of all of this is that I have a feeling the professor
plays favorite, and unfortunately for me, I'm don't think I'm one of
them. This hurts me because our writing assignments are not blind
graded. My grades for the writing assignments we've received thus far
have been decent but if they don't get better I fear my grade will be
adversely affected, even if I do well on the final. I've met with her to
see where I could improve but that hasn't proved helpful as my grades
remain the same. If I drop the class I will have a W on my transcript
and likely fall short of the 28 credits required to transfer into some
schools. What are your guys thoughts about what I could do to ensure
my transfer chances aren't effected?

Schools will enforce their credit requirements, and any "W" will have to be explained with something better than "well I was going to bomb so I hedged my bets early" soooo I think you are best off doing everything in your power to get as high a grade as possible.

+1. Keep meeting with her to see if you could figure out what you're doing wrong. But one mediocre grade won't totally kill you if you kill it in your other classes.

A W is bad, but not as bad as a terrible grade (like a C or lower). But you'll need to explain it somehow (e.g. you had to help your mother who is dying of cancer). If your school has some type of summer classes, you could always pick up the credits in the summer. With that said, I would not withdraw because you're concerned you're going to get a B+ or B, since that can be made up with killer grades in your other classes.
