Transferred...What Now?
So I transferred to the T-14, now what? I have a great SA position lined up for next summer. Things look good. What do I need to do now? I didn't even try to get on a journal. I have not joined any clubs. Do I need to develop my resume? What needs to be on my resume? I am definitely concerned about getting decent grades, but my grades will never show up on my professional profile, so what should I do that will transfer into future $/permanent job offer?

You can do very obvious things, such as cultivate relationships with influential professors, do externships with important organizations or agencies, take clinics or specialized classes in your field of interest...Oglethorpe wrote:So I transferred to the T-14, now what? Work hard at your SA so they give you a permanent job offer. That's the only thing that matters from here on out. Get the job and you're golden.Oglethorpe wrote:So I transferred to the T-14, now what? I have a great SA position lined up for next summer. Things look good. What do I need to do now? This was kind of rude and uncalled for, IMO. The reason TLS exists is for people to ask this kind of advice.KirkwoodGAO wrote:By the way, you sound like an insufferable striver and a braggart...

I guess? He said what he's done and asked if he was missing anything. Sounded like typical insecure law student to me.KirkwoodGAO wrote:OP appeared to be primarily gloating about his successful transfer and SA position

Do well at your SA, join some clubs, meet your new classmates, get decent grades, have fun. I'm in the same boat and this is generally what I'm doing.

Like others have said, pretty much just do well at your SA, don't bomb grades-wise, and have fun.
Oh yeah, and get your graduation requirements out of the way so you can do nothing all 3L.

I'm going from a letter grading system to a non-letter grading system. How do I know if I am doing well enough?

This. Your grades probably don't matter for your permanent offer, so unless you really want honors for your firm bio, try to enjoy your time: hang out with friends, pick up a hobby, go on a road trip, etc.vanwinkle wrote:Work hard at your SA so they give you a permanent job offer. I'd suggest taking some golf lessons in your spare time.

The primary reason for asking this question was to see whether I could relax and enjoy this experience after a hellish year of gunning to get here. I did not intend to hurt your feelings.
And yes, I am insecure. I will be insecure about my resume until I have a permanent job offer. I don't know how any law student could ever feel secure in this market with 150k of debt hanging over their head.
If my question offended any transfers, then I am sorry. I know what you're going through. This was by far the most stressful experience of my life.

If that is what you call bragging, perhaps you aren't cut out for law school or the legal world. What a ridiculous assumption.KirkwoodGAO wrote:OP appeared to be primarily gloating about his successful transfer and SA positionvanwinkle wrote:This was kind of rude and uncalled for, IMO. Wait, really? I have never met people as sensitive to the appearance of bragging as law students. I’ve noticed that sensitivity too. Even the littlest things trigger an onslaught of smackdowns. It is not that way in LS (or on the private LS boards), but it certainly exists on TLS. What is up with that?IAFG wrote:I have never met people as sensitive to the appearance of bragging as law students.

Thanks.tww909 wrote:Well enough for what? If your goal is to do transactional work at a law firm and you have an SA then there is no point in worrying about your grades from now on. If your goal is a prestigious clerkship or some similarly competitive thing that simply going to HYS isn't going to get you then the answer is different.
There is a consensus about a number of Hs (or at Berkeley there's an actual calculation you can do) that approximates certain class ranks. If you search around the boards enough you can find some threads discussing figuring out your class rank at schools that don't rank. Nevertheless that is not the only thing that matters for clerkships or other prestigious things. Professor connections are the most important thing (other than grades) and are often significantly more difficult to make than people realize before they transfer.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
