Not getting onto a journal.

Post by SKlei » Thu Aug 16, 2012 11:12 pm

At my old school I made Law Review, however did not receive any offers from any journals at my new school. Does it look really bad not to be on a journal? I'll still keep on my resume that I was invited to LR at my old school, but that probably won't mean anything.

Hiring attorneys don't know if you made the cutoff for journals at your new school or not. For example, Columbia has a really early journal competition date, so most transfers probably aren't on the journal. Also, GW has journal competition dat of June 25, so if you weren't admitted by then, no go for journals. Etc.

However, keep the invitation on your resume, still looks good.

I had the same thing happen to me last year. I have "Invited to Law Review" on my resume and just tried to take some legal writing courses and did moot court (which was not an invitation thing at my transfer school).
